PFFT! silly Brits. :toast: - Sluggo - 04-13-2002 OK...I just bought me one o' them there routers... It's a Siemens "Speedstream" Did I make a decent, or, a bad decision with this? I also bought all new cables cat6, was that a waste or will it help keep my connection speed up? I mean, I would immagine I won't notice much of an increase, if any, but I don't want to drag either. :helpme: - Kid Afrika - 04-13-2002 The siemens router sould be fine. I think you may have wasted your money on Cat6 cables though. Seems they cut down on crosstalk and provide a cleaner signal through more strict guidelines in cable production. What this means is, in a high-noise, or long cable segment network you will lose less packets, effectively increasing your communication speed. However, for surfing the web on a cable modem, I hardly think you'll see any measurable increase in speed. You might see an increase in p2p file transfers, but I still think that will be marginal. - Sluggo - 04-13-2002 Thanks Kid... That's what I figured, But, you know... - Sluggo - 04-14-2002 Ok...so...I'm posting this from my laptop...gonna see if I can post from my pc at the same time... - crx girl - 04-14-2002 haha, siemans, they're the reason we came to this country in the first place :roflmao: - Sluggo - 04-15-2002 Well it sucks...I'm fucking returning it tomorrow. - Paper Boy - 04-15-2002 what's the problem with it Sluggo? - Sluggo - 04-15-2002 Actually, the problem seems to be with the power transformer... The power light goes off...everything else stays on... Then the power light comes back on...and everything else shuts off...lost connection... I'm just gonna get another one...Shit happens. - Sluggo - 04-15-2002 OK...So...I returned the defective equipment... And went with the linksys BEFSR41 V.2... The only problem was the directions don't tell you to clone your mac address if you have cable... I will also say that the customer service was far more thorough, and didn't seem like they were just "pokin' and hopin"... I am set up now, and hopefully it will stay that way. - Galt - 04-15-2002 For the most part, anything you buy for a typical home network is going to be identical to one another. Big companies like Cisco, Nortel, Lucent, don't waste time making piss-ant products for consumer use since there is no margin in it. So what they do, is just buy the Netopia, and any other shitbag tiny company product and re-brand it. So for the most part, you're just buying something that was made from one of about four different manufacturers (and they're pretty much the same thing also) but it's just got a 3rd party companies logo on it. And there's also no reason to worry about getting top of the line patch cables when it's running 10 feet from the wall. Complete waste of money (though what, was it like $10) Just get generic shit, and you'll be fine. - Bartman - 04-16-2002 wiht ool you dont need to clone you MAC to the router...just a note - crx girl - 04-17-2002 oh good, sluggo has the same one as me, next time it breaks i'm calling you for customer support {:p} - Sluggo - 04-17-2002 Quote:wiht ool you dont need to clone you MAC to the router...just a noteBull fucking shit...If you don't you won't get online...trust me...Optomum online does not want you using these things and they make it tough. |
