I was actually going to say Private Ryan the other day, but then I thought about the very beginning of the movie and realized that the invasion wasn't the beginning of the movie. I would have to say though that yes it is one of the greatest sequences ever though.

The beginning of the Lost Boys was sweet just because that opening song ruled.
Other opening scenes....
Happiness, with Jon Lovitz and that psycho broad at the restaurant. She brakes up with him, and he flips out on her.
Rounders. "Here's the thing, if you don't spot the sucker in your first 30 miutes at the table, you are the sucker"
Momento. I went into the movie not having any idea what it was about. It freaked me out
Magnolia with all the urban legends/strange coincidences.

I also liked the beginning of Pulp Fiction. The diner scene. And then the music hits you with the Title. I loved that shit.

i am not sure this was the opening scene, but it migh have been. in "HEAT". when they hold up the armored car, i love that scene..

I thought of a few more.
Nice call on pulp fiction, but one even better is Resevoir Dogs. Same type of scene with the "Like a Virgin" debate at the table and then the debate on tipping then "little green bag" hits.
The opening scene to Amadeus is another classic. With Salieri attempting suicide and then Mozarts Violin concerto plays as he is being wheeled away.
