- Keyser Soze - 07-10-2002 i dont give a shit if the players are risking serious injury. im paying their contract, i'll decide when they come out of the game. if the fans were smart, they would vote with their feet and stop paying $50 to see a baseball game, let alone pay $4 for a hot dog and $6 for a beer. - Galt - 07-10-2002 ARGHHHHHH. You are not paying their contract. Would you walk into Microsoft and tell their employees that you pay their salaries? You are a consumer. You purchase a product. Just because you watch them work, doesn't give you any special powers over them, and whether or not they hurt themselves. God I wish someone in professional sports would tell the fans to get the fuck over themselves. - PollyannaFlower46 - 07-10-2002 Quote:God I wish someone in professional sports would tell the fans to get the fuck over themselves.I think the players who backed out of the All Star Game did that already. Fact of the matter is that they're the reasons fans come out to games, they're the reasons that fans buy the merchandise, and they're the reason their owners can afford to pay them the salaries they do. Its not unreasonable for a fan to expect a decent game to be put on the field, and its not unreasonable for a fan to expect the game to be played and for it to have an outcome. There wasn't even a MVP. Give me a break. - Keyser Soze - 07-10-2002 I sure as hell am paying their contract. If fans organized and made a real effort to strike against baseball, to boycott baseball there would be NO REVENUE, NO MONEY TO PAY THEIR CONTRACTS. The difference with baseball and microsoft is that many of the companies that use microsoft products are so in deep with the customization to their software products that they would never be able to afford to buy their soul back from M$. Microsoft products are so deeply intwined into most businesses that it would be impossible to boycott them or their products unless they decided to declare bancruptcy and start from square one, or completely restructure their business. - Sean Cold - 07-10-2002 Galt, it comes down to the simple fact of precedence. Baseball games are not meant to be tied. Period. Tori Hunter risked and injury going for Bonds' ball but no one says dick. Every pitcher who played in the game risked getting a ball slapped off of his face and no one says dick. Every player running down the baseline risked a Griffey Jr. hamstring pull and no one says dick. The players know the fuckin risks but still play the fuckin game because they are fuckin honored to be there. I can make you sick for wanting to see the end of a game. Thats fine. Those stammering fucks on Baseball tonight said it best: Jaws is a great movie but you still want to see what happens to the shark at the end of the movie. If it was hockey, thats a totaly different story. Hockey games end in ties. Shit, soccer games end in ties. The way you are talking, you basicly should feel the same way at the end of the season as well. Why should they play any of the games at the end when they are already out of the playoffs? We know Tampa Bay won't make the play offs, so, why not let them start resting for next year tomorrow so no one gets hurt. In fact, The Royals are playing the Bluejays in a few weeks, why risk the injuries? MLB should just decalre all games that are "Meaningless" a tie and be done with it. - Keyser Soze - 07-10-2002 Let me save Galt the possibility of replying to this and risking a finger injury. "Its only an exhibition" - Gooch - 07-10-2002 All-Star games are to promote the sport to the audience. It's an audience-related industry. The audience doesn't want a tie. The audience wants them to play the fucking game the way it was meant to be played, period. The audience also pays the contracts, by the way. The audience will be dictating the contraction, too. So, as a promotion of the "Best in Baseball" a tie is completely UN-fuckingceptable. This all-star game ended up being an embarassment and undermining the very reason of having the game itself. - Sean Cold - 07-10-2002 I have a hard time buying into the whole exhibition thing for a simple reason. Players get fuckin bonuses for making the All Star game. They earned the right to be there as voted on by the fans Galt seems to hate so much. They get thier money for being selected but after that, bah, why bother with playing that game. In Galts words, exhibition means meaningless so like i said, there are about 100 meaningless games played per week, why bother with them? The fans don't mean anything? Yeah, thats why there was talk of contraction, because the fans not going to the fuckin games didn't mean anything. You say fuck the fans and this fan says fuck you. To even post that the fans are meaningless is just stupid. The fans buy the tickets at the ball park. The fans purchase products advertised during telecasts that allow the same companies to pay to have said product placed. The fans are the ones who line up for ten hours to get an autograph at a session that the players get paid to attend. Shit, if it wasn't for the fuckin fans, the Red Sox would have been moved years ago during thier lovely string of ineptitude - PollyannaFlower46 - 07-10-2002 I guess Galt likes Rondell White, skip Spring Training (because hey, its meaningless) and then play during the regular season...I mean why do anything more than what you really have to do? - Gooch - 07-10-2002 Selig, after all the bad press the sport is getting, should have made them play till the win...let a player pitch if necessery. I guess 5 shortstops, one can throw a ball to the plate...right? - PollyannaFlower46 - 07-10-2002 Anyone the game Wade Boggs pitched? He even struck someone out...I'm sure someone could've done something. - Keyser Soze - 07-10-2002 lets just flip a coin, head: yankees, tails: braves. - Gooch - 07-10-2002 I say Torre and Brenly should have gone out there to throw the ball. These two are the ones that used too many pitchers. Pay the price, fuckheads. - PollyannaFlower46 - 07-10-2002 If they had players playing out of position, it could've been more fun for the fan anyway, people could look back on the 2002 All Star Game and say "rember when they had insert name here pitch instead of play the outfield?" - Galt - 07-10-2002 rember when they had Jose Canseco pitch instead of play the outfield?" Oh, I remember, it ruined his career and he lost probably $100+ million in salary and a shot at the Hall of Fame. FANS MAKE ALL RULES. YES, LET'S DO THAT. - Keyser Soze - 07-10-2002 Fuck Jose Canseco. Yes, we make the rules, we pay the contracts, if we want to ruin his career, thats our perogative. Don't like it? Theres an opening for tellers down at the bank, and get this, you get to work BANK HOURS, so your sense of entitlement and idea that THE FUCKING FANS OWE YOU DICK might get a slight massage by that. Fuck the players, how about jerking the fans off for once. - Galt - 07-10-2002 Do you use that "I pay your salary" line every time you talk to someone you do business with? The owners pay their salaries. Just like your bosses pay your salaries. Essentially yes, your salaries are paid by the fact that you have customers, but each individual employee is not beholden to consumers. I just don't like the double-standard people have against athletes because they make a lot of money. - Keyser Soze - 07-10-2002 the reason i use that is because in the entertainment business it applies much more that it does in other arenas. an entertainers career is beholden to the people who go out and pay for tickets to see them. if they dont buy tickets, they have NO CAREER. its the same thing for baseball. look at whats happening in Montreal. a few thousand fans show up to see the Expos and thus, their team will likely contract or move to somewhere people actually would go seem them play. its simple supply and demand. if the interest is not there, joe baseball player is tin knocking down in east harlem. - PollyannaFlower46 - 07-10-2002 Quote:I just don't like the double-standard people have against athletes because they make a lot of money. Its not a double standard. They get paid millions of dollars to play a game, granted baseball is also a business, but at its very heart, its a game. They didn't have to go to school, they don't sit in offices all day, and they don't even work for the whole year. They play baseball games....that's it....fucking get on the field and play ball... - Keyser Soze - 07-10-2002 a-fucking-men, bunch of spoiled rotten bitches. it makes me sick to my stomach how much they take their talent and privledge for granted. |
