Quote:Eminem proved to be a powerhouse at the box office with his urban drama 8 Mile which generated the best opening day ever for an R rated film with a Friday haul of $20.9M beating out Hannibal's $19M from February 2001. The phenomenal debut also ranks as the second biggest opening day ever in the month of November trailing Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone which bowed to a towering $32.3M last year on its way to a record-breaking $90.3M weekend. However, by playing in just 2,471 theaters, 8 Mile's per-theater average of $8,450 nearly matched the $8,805 of Harry Potter on its opening day.

The critically acclaimed Eminem pic also carried a more restrictive rating compared to the boy wizard's PG. Since 8 Mile appeals to a core following of fans of the best-selling rapper, and that its target audience consists of a large number of teens and young adults, the Curtis Hanson film is expected to see a large share of its weekend business on Friday. For the three-day session, 8 Mile may find itself with a staggering $54-59M.

I am seeing this after the Giants game today, but I am shocked. It is on pace for 56 something million for this movie. I thought it would be good, but not do this well. This is all Eminem.

- NaughtyAngel - 11-10-2002

i thought the movie rooooooocked

- Sweet Angel - 11-11-2002

My son (11) really really wants to go see this. I know it's Eminem and it's rated R. How bad is it? Is it: definitely do not take your kids to see this movie. Or just: well, it's got some language and stuff, but it's not really too bad. He's driving me crazy (and I wanna see it too).

- Teenweek - 11-11-2002

There were a lot of kids there when I went. There is a lot of vulgarity and sexual references. Eminem sees his mom having sex from the back. There is violence of Eminem defending his mother and beating up her boyfriend while the young sister watches and also the young sister watching and screaming from the window seeing Eminem get beat up by like 5-6 black guys.

I saw a lot of kids under 11 there, so if you don't have a problem much with the vulgarity, than you can see it.

- LyricalGomez - 11-11-2002

Hmm, maybe I just don't notice, but language didn't seem too bad or over the top...Sure there was plenty of cursing and so forth, but no worse than a bunch of friends getting together.....There is violence in the movie, as well as sex (although it winds up being funny instead of sexy) it's a judgement call really, I saw plenty of younger kids in the theatre

I meant more like the Kim Basinger lines

- Teenweek - 11-11-2002

oh yeah i forgot that. who didn't think his black boss was going to catch him. That guy was always everywhere.

- Sweet Angel - 11-11-2002

Okay, let me rephrase...having seen the movie, if you had kids, would you take them to see it? Why or why not? It's hard to make a judgment call without having seen it first. Keep in mind, we live in an area that is pretty far removed from city life, so it might be a little different for my kid, as opposed to an 11-year old from Newark...ya know?

My gut says no, wait til it comes out on video.

- LyricalGomez - 11-11-2002

Personally, if I had an 11 year old, I would probablly take him to the movie if he wanted to go see it. The reason I said judgement call is because I don't know if you want him to see Sex and Violence...Decisions like that differ from parent to parent.

- Teenweek - 11-11-2002

what other type of movies have you let your son see. The biggest problem with it is the language and the violence in front of his sister. It's a total judgment call.

- Sweet Angel - 11-11-2002

Exactly. Which is why I'm trying to get some feedback. Thanks for your input Smile

I was really considering taking him (probably to a matinee), but I was told that it was absolutely not for kids, and that people who had taken their kids shouldn't have.

I'm usually pretty careful about what I let him watch. I think the only "R" rated movie he has seen is "Scream" and I let him watch it on video with me sitting there in case he got scared. But that was 2 years ago.

He listens to the music, so I don't think the language would be a problem. I'm more concerned with the sex/violence, I guess.

- Hey Ladi - 11-11-2002

I wouldn't

why does he want to see it? do you let him listen to it, do all his little friends?

- Teenweek - 11-11-2002

if he already listens to eminem's music, than I say take him.

- Sweet Angel - 11-11-2002

Quote:why does he want to see it? do you let him listen to it
He wants to see it because he likes Eminem and wants to be like everybody else who will have seen it. He listens to some of the songs, but doesn't actually have a store-bought CD, just what I've downloaded -- and it's more or less clean or radio versions. Except for the one in the car, but then I'm there too, so I can turn it off if it gets to be too much.

- Sweet Angel - 11-11-2002

this is interesting...the guys say take him, the girl says no. yet i was the one considering taking him and my boyfriend said no. the jury is still out...i'm gonna wait for more opinions. thanks!

Edit: Oops, guess I could've just edited that in, huh?
