I completely forgot the one funny event of the evening, Tarver in his excitement after the ref waved off Jones accidently knocked out the cameraman in the ring as well.

i am still stunned

- Gooch - 05-16-2004

as am i. biggest upset in boxing since Tyson/Douglas...and I wasn't a mark for Tyson then. I have always loved Roy Jones Jr, ever since I saw him put on a boxing display over James "Lights Out" Toney, who was the top dog pound for pound back then. To see this man, caught like that flush, on the canvas, dazed and dispassionate during the interview was such a startling and abrupt shock to what has been years and years of dominance, where he made boxer after boxer look bad...and, though lacked the competition to truly test his mettle as a true living legend...he still was unparalleled and untouchable. That untouchable quality...screeched to a halt. Fell to the canvas from a good shot from a good boxer who's style was a challenge...but most of all, it showed that Jones does not seem to be inspired. His own words after the match, that he didn't want to fight Tarver again, is statement enough to where his head is these days...not on the here and now, and more looking for his lost passion, when he blew his load with Ruiz. Back to heavyweights. I really wonder if this is the end of a line for a man who's skills have dropped slightly, who's slowed a bit, but still powerful and dynamic...but who has really lost his passion and drive for prizefighting. On a poll on ESPN, over 70% want them to fight again. People are just not satisfied with the result, and whats bothers me more, is that Roy Jones Jr seems ok with the result, and that is the fall from grace of a boxing icon.
