- PatCooper - 05-16-2004 I laugh at the people who payed 50 bucks for this shit. I just downloaded it for free.... :bouncer: - GonzoStyle - 05-16-2004 I doubt anyone here paid for it. But I really cant compare Jones loss to anything really. I was thinking Tyson Vs. Douglas but time showed that Tyson was more mystique and Douglas was garbage, Tarver on the other hand has always been a good fighter. Keyword ofcourse being good, Jones was always great. I then thought Ali Vs. Spinks but that went 15 rounds, Ali Vs. Holmes in which Ali was stopped but once again this was an ali whom people begged to retire and was 40 years old, but he still hung in for 10 rounds and had to be stopped by the ref cause ali would never quit, that was more the equivalent of what Holyfield is going through now and after his fight with Toney last year. Jones said he doesnt wanna fight Tarver again but he has to. He's always calculated his entire career and no matter what he says he cares about his legacy a lot. The boxing media which has never liked jones has been salavating for what happened yesterday. Now all of them will be coming out of the woodworks to finally spout what they have been sitting on for years, the same ones who were getting wet thinking about Ruiz beating jones. Finally they can say Jones has been overrated for the past 10 years and hasnt faced a worthy opponent since he fought James Toney and even then Toney was starting to go downhill. Then when he went up to heavyweight he picked the slowest, weakest, most boring heavyweight to fight in John Ruiz. Jones in a single night went from arguably the best fighter of the generation to a not so sure bet. Now everyone can say he was pampered and hand picked the crappiest opponents, he beat Hopkins but that was over a decade ago before Hopkins came into his prime. The one night Jones finally faced a worthy opponent all it took was one punch and Jones was shook. Tarver threw 7 punches the whole fight, it took him one single punch to send jones into fuckin la la land. Now the questions of his chin come into play since jones has always been a defensive fighter who went out of his way to make sure he rarely if ever got hit. Boxing is on its ear now as is Jones legacy and its in his court but he cant use the "I just cant get excited for guys like Tarver" thats bullshit. It wasnt even competitive cause it only took a little over 4 minutes. - GonzoStyle - 05-23-2004 For anyone who hasnt seen it yet or wants to see it again, they are gonna be replaying the Jones/Tarver fight tonight on HBO @ 9:45pm. After that theres gonna be a live fight which may be pretty good, Floyd Mayweather Vs. Demarcus Corley. By the by Jones has said he refuses a 3rd fight with Tarver and if he does fight again which is questionable he will do so at heavyweight. Last night on FNF Tarver said that last weeks fight was probably his last at light heavy as well and he'll be moving up as well so there will be some interest if both have a 3rd fight at heavyweight this time, it also may be a first for rematches, having two men fight again at a different weight class, i'll have to look that one up. |
