Without Lenny Bruce, there may never have been a Carlin, a Pryor, a Dice, a Murphy, or a Kinison.

I think lenny bruce was a bigger influence on political comics like carlin and dennis miller, not the others. Lenny Bruce was more like larry flint with a sense of humor.

True, I mentioned the others because Bruce wasn't just political but he also paved the way for comics to speak their minds whether it was popular or not. He was ahead of his time in terms of how he pushed the envelope in what you could and should not say.

Lenny Bruce in my honest opinion was not a "ha ha" funny comic. He made you think more than laugh. He was extremely political but only cause of what surrounded him, he paved the way for all comics by challenging their 1st ammendmant rights to say what they wanted. Thats why I see him more like a larry flint meets a dennis miller. He was a smart comic.
Pryor didn't care if you got it or not because he would make you get it. Pryor was the pioneer of painting pictures on stage for people, he would make you understand wether you were black or white. He'd make white people understand what he was talking about as a black man, he'd make blacks understand vice versa what he meant when dealing with white society he'd encountered.
The main thing was he never did, set up, joke, punchline, like everyone was doing before him. Richard dealt with pain and real life, he'd tell stories that people could relate to. When you saw Pryor you didn't feel like you were seeing a comic but an old wise uncle who you knew your whole life and he was gonna lay some knowlege on you and make you laugh your ass off.

He was important in developing today's comic frontier, but as far as his actual act goes, He was not close to Pryor or Carlin.

True, he was more a pioneer than actually being funnier than those he inspired and paved the way for. I totally agree with you on Pryor, he is one of a kind and the most natural of all the comics mentioned.
