rss allows you to subscribe to sites that are frequently updated with articles. you can have those articles automatically sent in all sorts of ways. most popular being, within a browser. with firefox, you can add rss bookmarks to your toolbar and have the lastest articles at your fingertips to browse, without even having to go to the site.
