Wireless network - diceisgod - 02-07-2006 Apparently someone in this apartment has wireless access and my laptop can detect it. I've ignored it for the most part but I just tried to establish a connection and use it and it works! Can I leech off that without being caught? - HedCold - 02-07-2006 if the guy has no idea what he's doing, than yea but if he logs in to his router settings he can see if computers are connected - Keyser Soze - 02-07-2006 D1G 7331 H4X0R - diceisgod - 02-07-2006 Worse they could do is boot me off and block me right? - Goatweed - 02-07-2006 theoretically, yes. - HedCold - 02-07-2006 someone in florida got arrested for it. its been the only time really someone has been charged for it, and i'm not sure what actually happened in the end to the guy http://money.cnn.com/2005/07/07/technol ... ss_arrest/ since its an apartment building it would be pretty hard to tell whos computer it is, but they can see the computer name and MAC address. so if for some extreme reason the cops come in and starts investigating, they can tie it to you most likely nothing will happen, but it is possible, just like its possible the RIAA can sue you for downloading stuff - Goatweed - 02-07-2006 better keep that new Glock loaded & at the ready - just in case. - HedCold - 02-07-2006 - Mad - 02-07-2006 You should be fine as long as you don't have nasty little habits like Gary Glitter. - Galt - 02-07-2006 Actually, the worst they could do (given that you think that clicking the "search available networks" is some form of high end espionage - and therefore you probably have absolutely zero security protection on your own computer) is have complete access to your computer, any information you have on it, and any key stroke you make on it. But since they didn't secure their connection, I'd imagine either a) they specifically left it open and therefore don't care if people leetch or b) are as equally inept technologicially as you are, and therefore there shouldn't be a problem. - Arpikarhu - 02-07-2006 keep your scuzzi clean and they will never catch you. scuzzi dirt is really traceable! - fbd - 02-07-2006 Galt Wrote:Actually, the worst they could do (given that you think that clicking the "search available networks" is some form of high end espionage - and therefore you probably have absolutely zero security protection on your own computer) is have complete access to your computer, any information you have on it, and any key stroke you make on it. of course, they could be a hacker who intentionally leaves their network open so that other people leetch and then steal all of their information. its not a bad scheme if you know what you're doing - diceisgod - 07-01-2006 i got me my own wireless network now. I posting this from my bed on my laptop and the cable modem is all the way over there! I can go anywhere here I want now and be with my buddies! This is so exciting! Amazing stuff. - Mad - 07-01-2006 Get a packet sniffing program and do a little neighborly snooping to make sure none are waging Jihad against us. Godspeed. - Keyser Soze - 07-18-2006 is there any way to crack WEP passcodes? - HedCold - 07-18-2006 there is, but i'm not sure how, especially on windows. some winner probably posted something on digg about it if you search - HedCold - 07-18-2006 yay google http://www.tomsnetworking.com/2005/05/1 ... rack_wep_/ - Keyser Soze - 07-18-2006 seems like a lot of work - Goatweed - 07-18-2006 you need to borrow my foil hat? - Mad - 07-19-2006 Just your intelligence. |
