I just got this email from optimum online:

i think verizon was one of the first that had to send them out for the riaa when it started, but i never got one.
also, i'm guessing they sent this to your optimum online email? i hardly ever check the verizon email for the account

Yeah they sent it to my OOL email.
I'm trying to figure out how to avoid it, besides becoming human like keyser.
I'd assume maybe using a different tracker, this one was from the demonoid tracker. I dunno if isohunt has anything to do with it. But I have downloaded several movies using demonoids tracker. Also I assume they track most of the newer movies, so maybe lay off a few weeks from when its released. You never know when they may add your name to a legal action, not something i'd wanna risk.

do you have encryption turned on in the bittorrent client? i'm not sure how much that helps, but it doesn't hurt except for maybe slightly slower downloads
i really have no idea how it works, but i would think if the mpaa is part of the torrent and have encryption on they'll be able to see what you're doing, but your cable company would only see packets that look like static and can be anything, so they wouldn't be able to confirm anything

BitTorrent traffic makes up a large portion of total internet traffic. Some ISPs deal with it by increasing their capacity. Other ISPs use specialised hardware to throttle, or slow down BitTorrent traffic. Encryption makes BitTorrent traffic harder to detect and therefore harder to throttle. It is not designed to provide anonymity.

I think PeerGuardian was designed to help encrypt traffic, Kevin Rose used to shill that a lot but I never bothered to play with it.
Also Gonzo, I'm not sure if you changed any of the torrent settings but usually torrents use default ports 6881 thru 6999. If you change them, then anyone scanning IPs for activity on those ports obviously wont see you. If you dont know what Im talking about, you can google or I can work up a lengthy PM.
I changed mine to way up in the 11000 range, but even before I did I never heard a peep from Time Warner.

I use Utorrent, I have it set to automatically pick a new port every time the program loads, It varies from port 20000 to port 50000.
I dunno about the encryption, I have the protocal encryption set to "enabled".
