I'm goin to the mattresses - GonzoStyle - 06-23-2006 I just got this email from optimum online: Quote:We are writing as a courtesy to let you know that we have received Apparently in the attachement it was for of all crappy movies, The Omen. I got it off Isohunt a couple days ago. Anyone else get one of these? - Keyser Soze - 06-23-2006 nope, i watch movies in theaters like a normal human being. - Charles Manson - 06-23-2006 not yet - Black Lazerus - 06-23-2006 Registered Copyright Agent Notice for Claims of Copyright Infringement We have adopted the following requirements for submitting claims of copyright infringement: All written notices of alleged copyright infringement must be sent to our Registered Copyright Agent and, if applicable, must meet the then current statutory requirements imposed by the Digital Millennium Copyright Act of 1998 ("DMCA"), 17 U.S.C. § 512. Now that I said that, I'm sure I'll have a little something waiting for me in my inbox when I get home. - HedCold - 06-23-2006 i think verizon was one of the first that had to send them out for the riaa when it started, but i never got one. also, i'm guessing they sent this to your optimum online email? i hardly ever check the verizon email for the account - GonzoStyle - 06-23-2006 HedCold Wrote:i think verizon was one of the first that had to send them out for the riaa when it started, but i never got one. Yeah they sent it to my OOL email. I'm trying to figure out how to avoid it, besides becoming human like keyser. I'd assume maybe using a different tracker, this one was from the demonoid tracker. I dunno if isohunt has anything to do with it. But I have downloaded several movies using demonoids tracker. Also I assume they track most of the newer movies, so maybe lay off a few weeks from when its released. You never know when they may add your name to a legal action, not something i'd wanna risk. - HedCold - 06-23-2006 do you have encryption turned on in the bittorrent client? i'm not sure how much that helps, but it doesn't hurt except for maybe slightly slower downloads i really have no idea how it works, but i would think if the mpaa is part of the torrent and have encryption on they'll be able to see what you're doing, but your cable company would only see packets that look like static and can be anything, so they wouldn't be able to confirm anything - Goatweed - 06-23-2006 just lay low for a few weeks, nothing to worry about. - Keyser Soze - 06-23-2006 dorks! anyone got an inconvienient truth? im not paying 10 bucks to see that shit. - HedCold - 06-23-2006 BitTorrent traffic makes up a large portion of total internet traffic. Some ISPs deal with it by increasing their capacity. Other ISPs use specialised hardware to throttle, or slow down BitTorrent traffic. Encryption makes BitTorrent traffic harder to detect and therefore harder to throttle. It is not designed to provide anonymity. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BitTorrent ... encryption - Goatweed - 06-23-2006 I think PeerGuardian was designed to help encrypt traffic, Kevin Rose used to shill that a lot but I never bothered to play with it. Also Gonzo, I'm not sure if you changed any of the torrent settings but usually torrents use default ports 6881 thru 6999. If you change them, then anyone scanning IPs for activity on those ports obviously wont see you. If you dont know what Im talking about, you can google or I can work up a lengthy PM. I changed mine to way up in the 11000 range, but even before I did I never heard a peep from Time Warner. - HedCold - 06-23-2006 i think peer guardian just blocks known ips that are known to be bad - HedCold - 06-23-2006 http://www.afterdawn.com/software/p2p_s ... ardian.cfm PeerGuardian is a tiny IP blocker program especially designed for P2P software users, but also to anyone who is concerned about the investigations that corporations and authorities perform on the internet. PeerGurdian blocks connections for the configured IP ranges and logs the blocked connections. It uses blocklists for the blocking, but IP ranges can also be configured manually. Pre-cofigured for blocking are RIAA, MPAA and many others. - GonzoStyle - 06-24-2006 I use Utorrent, I have it set to automatically pick a new port every time the program loads, It varies from port 20000 to port 50000. I dunno about the encryption, I have the protocal encryption set to "enabled". - GonzoStyle - 06-24-2006 HedCold Wrote:http://www.afterdawn.com/software/p2p_s ... ardian.cfm so your saying I should use it? - Goatweed - 06-24-2006 it couldnt hurt - Ive never used it but Kevin Rose is cool, he knows his shit. - Mad - 06-24-2006 You damn pirates, AHRRRR. - GonzoStyle - 06-24-2006 Goatweed Wrote:it couldnt hurt - Ive never used it but Kevin Rose is cool, he knows his shit. oh well, cant hurt I guess. - Goatweed - 06-24-2006 that's what I said. |
