well I'm glad you asked goat, anyway conventional wisdom says that if you listen to the whole song you will discover that master has died from a shoe-tail bite. anyway cracked corn probably means corn liquor which was a big drink back in the day so the slaves, mad is right about that, were either happy or upset, probably happy, that their master died and they all got drunk, so in fact nothing mattered and no one cared
