When I first started posting on message boards, I had this idea that there was an existing heirarchy to which you had to adhere or be destined to a horrible fate. You see, I came from Newsgroups to boards. In newsgroups, there are FAQs and there are rules about groups and shit. Like you dare not discuss a thread or a post in a binaries group. That's what the discussion groups are for.
So, when I started posting on oa.com, I was all worried about lurking for a while to get to know the people and see how things worked. My roommate at the time didn't see it the way I did. He just posted all willy-nilly, and had fun with it. Well, I'm sure he doesn't post anymore, wherever he is. But, here I am still posting.
Now, I am not saying that you can't survive on message boards without adhering to the rules, whether actual or implied. The point is that it can be a totally different experience depending on from where you view it. For me, I always liked the idea of vets and newbies. You had to earn your stripes with wit and good posts. Volume and activity really had no bearing on it, at all. After all, it is better to be thought the fool than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt.
Well here we are today, and my posting seems to have changed in the eyes of many. I'm not sure how much it has actually changed, or if it is the audience that has changed. Or, maybe it was more fun to watch me post when it was new to you.
I used to post shit that I really liked to discuss/debate. These days, I don't do that as often because I think the posts will get lost in between maynard's lunch threads, and arpi's dinner threads, and ken's pen's polls. From where I sit, the message boards have become a lot more personal and frivolous(sp?), and a lot less informative and thought provoking.
I mean honestly, where else can you read about shit throwing simians and people getting divorced on the same board? Don't get me wrong. I am not complaining, I'm just trying to open a discussion. After all, I don't have to read the EMO threads, but I do feel a certain obligation to torment those who post them. That's just fun, to me. Shit, I remember having a lot of fun ripping on people's "FU" threads, at one time. I guess I just feel that if you don't want people to kick you when you're down, don't get down or don't let them see you down.
So anyway, we all come here for fun, but it seems to me that the type of fun varies from person to person. We can't all like everything that's posted here. And we can't all be nice to each other all of the time. Shit, we're lucky enough that we all stuck together to make this place work.
Go, post, be merry. But, how about some enlightening shit every once in a while? Would it kill you to discuss something besides how cool you are because you go to bar 9, and now you are personal friends with everyone else that goes? I have a few friends from here, and when I want to have a private conversation with them, I call them or IM them. For the most part, I don't put my personal life on blast, because I know you fucks would rip me to shreds over it, and rightfully so. Next time you post something personal and I rip you on it, remember, I couldn't do it if you didn't post it. Or, you could be like mayfag and many others that just ignore my taunts.

The board is what you make it pal. Don't be afraid to go against the grain and post some shit you'd like to discuss/debate. Lead, follow or shut the fuck up.

The point is like it or not, we are a sick twisted little family. Wanna rip eachother for board shit? Fine. But it's called common sense, not to bring up the shortcomings of a human being to bust on them. We share our thoughts and lives with eachother.
I agree when you refuse to bust on someone period, cause you like them, ruins the posting fun. But bringing up someones personal shit for your own amusement is childish and not funny.

You are within your rights in that, ES. But, you must admit that I couldn't have said shit if you hadn't put shit out there. See, I like to go for the jugular. Cringe posting at its best, without the need for "puss-pumping meat rocket" references.
I like to post shit that makes people go, "OH FUCK!!! I can't believe he posted that." hell, half of the jokes I enjoy are at the expense of others.
Take for instance the dumb bitch that rear-ended some dude's truck the other day on Rt. 18. That shit was funny as hell. I don't know what the fuck she was looking at, but it sure in the fuck wasn't where she was going. I laughed, downshifted and went around her. And, I've told the story to several of my friends, all of whom had quite the giggle about it. Sure, it probably cost her $2000 to get her car fixed, but she deserved it for not paying attention.
Much that same as I deserved to pay $500 to get my bike fixed, and to spend 4 days nursing road rash, when I crashed my bike because I panicked(sp?) when someone cut in front of me. I can admit that it was my fault, and I was an idiot for crashing. Why can't you admit that you are not perfect?

I know. I've been lazy and pretty much been going with the flow. I'd be in the "follow" part of the previous statement. I don't complain as much as you do about it, I could see you or I complaining if we were actually trying to post the types of threads you are talking about but we aren't and we haven't been.

I enjoy the wacky stuff, but it gets old pretty quick if there isn't something that requires a little thought. I think you have changed as a poster, Kid, you seem much more prone to the pecking parties than to genuine debates. It is often quite entertaining, but it will get old unless we get deep every once in a while.

But when you go for shock value posting, it's not funny. It's not entertaining, froy couldn't get a response unless he was blatently being a racist, he needed shock value humor.
You don't you are smater and funnier than that. I am not saying do not make fun of me, please go right ahead. I'll even help, lol. But when you have to dig deep into personal shit to get a response, it is sad.
Plus I haven't used "meat pocket" in ages. I tell one eggplant story over a year ago, I used it ONCE since then, yet people act as if I say it on a daily basis. It's an assumption, I don't believe I am that one dimensional. I didn't say it wasn't intelligent, only that I didn't care. Personally, I don't think that just because you know about politics makes you smart. Quite the contrary, I think that if you think the average man can make a difference just by voting, you are rather deluded. But hey, that's just me and I've never voted and never will.

I never voted either buddy boy, we have so much in common. I never eluded to the fact that simply cause it was political it was smart. It was just a post that wasnt started by ken or arpi and it didn't have homosexual innuendo in it. Plus there were some interesting facts and sides to the discussion.
But my question still stand pal o' mine, what would you like to see discussed?

dent's thread about how you got around as a kid was great. any thread that begs the participation of everyone can't be all bad. when threads are aimed at individuals or inside jokes, I get turned off by them. basically, threads that seem forced generally suck ass. I can't tell you all of the topics that would make for interesting threads, because if I had them, I would post them.
