It's not a horrible movie. I contend that were it not for Aston Kutcher, who's acting is over-the-top and just plain bad, that it would have been a blockbuster movie. The kids in it were good. The plot was interesting, and it had a few "holy shit" moments.

But that's not the point. The "directors cut" had an alternate ending that was SO MUCH BETTER than the one in the theatres. There was one additional scene in the middle of the movie that set up a different, and much more negative ending ending.

Normally, alternate endings weren't chosen because they were lame, but this one was much better.

Wow! I've started two threads about this movie. That's pathetic.

You're so gay for Aston, fag.

- Black Lazerus - 07-12-2004

I agree with you if it were not for Ashton this movie would have been much better.

So what happened is:

There's an extra scene in the movie where Kutcher and his mom leave dinner, walk by a psychic, and as a joke decide to go in, and are mocking the lady. She says something about how Kutcher has no lifeline, how he has no soul and is all freaked out. He laughs, his mother leaves. Then tells him about how she had two stillborns before he was born, and didn't think he'd make it. But that he was her miracle baby, and so the psychic just freaked her out a bit.

So fastforward to the ending where he's stuck in the pyschiatrist's office looking at the home movie. In the orginal ending, it was a home movie of a party, he goes to the girl and says something like. "I hate you, I hope you die. I'll kill you if I ever see you again", she decides to move away to live with her mom; that changes the events of everyone's life for the better...then he bumps into her in the street year's later, but had learned that he'd only mess up her life, so he ignores her and walks away. The end.

In this ending, instead of the home movie being of the party, the first film was his mother during labor (which makes sense -- when would a home movie start when someone's 7 years old? It is more logical to start earlier), he goes into the scene and he's inside her womb. He starts strangling himself with the ambilical cord, his mom starts screaming, the doctors are trying to save him, but he's dead.

So you're left with: He had two other siblings who all fucked up the world with their special power, and decided to go back and kill themselves off during birth rather than ruin everyone's life.

It was pretty macabre and a great ending that I wish they'd done rather than what they actually chose.

I finally saw it last night and I gotta agree with Galt the directors cut has a much better ending, the theatrical ending was predictable and boring. the directors cut ending was really fuckin creepy in a good way, it really was one of those "whoa" endings.

- Galt - 09-17-2004

I actually wrote the word "macabre"

- GonzoStyle - 09-17-2004

I wanted to write it cause thats what came to mind but I saw it in your post.

- Galt - 09-18-2004

I forgot that was even a word. Why do people write in a manner which they would never speak?

- LyricalGomez - 09-18-2004

I'm sure I've said the word macabre in conversation

I think the movie had a good script that was ruined by Ashton, and I also wasn't too keen on the director, this is definetly one of those movies that should be remade one day, it had potential.
