- Keyser Soze - 10-30-2004 There are like 8 different wireless networks available from my house, but I want to lock into my own. Is there a way to lock into just my network? The machine is running Windows XP SP2. - The Jays - 10-30-2004 do you have a password? - The Jays - 01-22-2005 ok, I actually installed a wireless network, and I actually know how to help you now. So, you still need help dude? - drusilla - 01-22-2005 uh, i do. - The Jays - 01-22-2005 whatchu need to know? - drusilla - 01-22-2005 too many shitty networks are available. i was wondering if i can just lock in on mine. - The Jays - 01-22-2005 do you have a password? - drusilla - 01-22-2005 hmmm, if only i could remember what it was - drusilla - 01-22-2005 hmmm, if only i could remember what it was - drusilla - 01-22-2005 sweet - The Jays - 01-22-2005 Well, like, I have a wireless router, and the wireless card in my computer on the same channel, and it uses an encryption passkey to keep the connection secure. Now, I have like two neighbors who are also wireless, but run nonencrypted, so I could get onto them whenever. They were both on channel 6, so I'm on another channel. - drusilla - 01-22-2005 sure - Bloody Anus - 01-23-2005 Okay, I have about 300 feet of cat5 in my apartment and have no reason to go wireless, so I don't know shit about it. But whenever I've been asked similar questions, I always suggest creating a workgroup/domain. No clue whether or not it would work with wireless, but it sounds good and makes sense to me.. - 2 tired 2 give N F - 01-23-2005 Use a network key and change the channel that your network is on. 6 is the default on most routers. - diceisgod - 01-23-2005 sounds like your scuzzis need a washin - Danked - 01-23-2005 Last time I saw so many scuzzi infested people, I was at a Phish show. - The Jays - 01-23-2005 whats kinds of phish did you see? - Keyser Soze - 01-23-2005 the way i fixed it was to remove all but my network from "preferred networks" - The Jays - 01-23-2005 do you have a password? - 2 tired 2 give N F - 01-23-2005 Keysers way works...but you gotta make sure you don't let your comp log onto any of those other networks ever. Otherwise it'll sometimes automatically join up on those. |
