After connecting your iPod and installing iPod Access, just browse the files on your iPod and transfer them from the iPod to your PC either individually or in bulk. I got the songs off the iPod, but half of the 4,000 songs on it had been purchased off itunes, and they won't play on my PC.

I'm sure it's not that hard to get around, but it's another project.
