I think your underestimating the effects of an advanced case of scurvy. Scurvy can cause all your joints to lock up in really painful positions. Like having the back of your hand flat against the back of your forearm.

Advanced Scurvy = Can't move

Plus, he hasn't seen a girl in months. Too horny to fight. Vulnerable to female seduction and trickery.
