actually i have not a bad word to say about the Pixies. They defined the late 80s alternative scene. Then Jane's Addiction popped up. to me..they are VERY 80's as a product of the east coast alternative rock, mixed with their guitarists California Dick Dale stylings..and had a ton of influence of the alternative of the 90s. But i consider them an 80s band. Breeders and Frank Black were 90s.
