I have no clue anymore as to whose D you have to suck to get any grant/scholorship money. My daughter was straight A's through high school, every aademic honor recognition possible, accepted to every major university she applied to and she did not get one stinking penny of free money. Graduate school is different based on your GPA and any internships you may have done.

It sure does, sometimes it seems like I can't get any money because my parents both have their masters and are still married, they have all these funds for people who have single uneducated parents, but since mine happen to have a good education, etc. I have to graduate about $60k in the hole.

Take the GMATs. You'll get your score immediately and then you'll know what types of schools you should be applying to based on the range of their accepted GMAT scores.

Take some time to prepare. Visit career services of your undergrad school and get help with resume, searching, all that shit.

You spent thousands of dollars wherever you went, and it's assumed that they'll help alumni do research not just for jobs but also for other schools and resume help

To stop getting fucked like that tell your parents to stop claiming you on their taxes. Once they do that the only thing you have to worry about with scholarships is the color of your skin. If you are white you should apply for grants/scholarships a year beforehand....

I'm wondering why people seem to go to grad school so quickly after getting their bachelors. Do they just want to get it over with or they want to go for the bigger paycheck right off the bat? In my field it seems like learning technologies on the job is more valuable than a degree. Of course its possible that you will hit a ceiling where they want some sort of degree but i've gone pretty far and I do pretty well money wise for someone who left school and still needs a few more credits for their bachelors.

My parents claim me on their taxes because for the most part they should. I pay for my own education, but they pay for a large amount of my expenses and most importanly my extensive medical bills. I'm not complaining about paying for my education, I think it makes me appreciate it more, but I'm complaining about the way they assess need.

As for the question Kyser posed about getting your Masters so quickly after your Bachelors, many fields require it. I know that for my intended field, for the most part, unless you know someone, you need your masters just for an entry level position. Also, once you're not in school, any college loans you may have come due, so many people want to get the extra $ that comes along with a Masters before having to pay off their loans.

but then dont you have even bigger loans when you get out? chances are it'd take almost as long to pay them off, unless you got a really good job fresh out of school

You have 15 years to pay off your college/grad school loans, the interest rate is very low, and personally I think its just easier to go straight from undergraduate studies into graduate school simply because I worry that once I get used to no school, I won't find it as easy to go back. And besides, I need my masters for my field.

I agree with keyser, on the job experience beats any degree you can get. Most companies I've worked for scan over my bachelors and say, "nice". Then ask me what I did at previous jobs, "drove them into the ground"..(saving k1d the time)

But to each his own I guess, I am happy making 40-60k a year, I don't need a fancy home, a fancy car or a string of poloponies. I just don't feel like wasting more years in school and ammasing tens of thousands of dollars in debt for an extra piece of paper.

$60k isn't a huge amount of money, but as a single adult making $60k or so, you're not living check to check (I assume).

I am going into a new field of work now, same career but in a new field of work. I'll have to start at the bottom with 40k probably, but will move up within a few years and reach 70k hopefully in 5 years or so. I'll be more than comfortable.
