Well, there's the warm up and cool down. You don't just start sprinting. That's how you pull a muscle.
You shouldn't talk about being in shape. I've seen your pictures from Cabo.

i stretch before i run, thats how i dont pull a muscle. any healthy 20something male should be able to run a sub 10 minute mile.
