Ics... what's your setup? - Router or hub?? which is better?

I just bought that router... thanks for the tip. This thing is fucking great. No more of my douche bag roommates yelling at me when my computer crashes and they can't get their net pR0n, I can now serve them up unintertupted internet service and a nice warm glass of 'shut the hell up!!!'

You couldn't have been more right when you said it's ready to go right out of the box. That's literally all I had to do (well with the exception of uninstalling the second network Card I had, and changing up the wiring that was connected to my hub)... it was a snap. half and hour and I'm back up and running.

Another reason I like it.... it frees up a PCI slot in my desktop.... no more two NIC setup, and I don't have to keep one machine running at all times.

On top of that.... for some reason I couldn't get VPN to maintain a constant tunnel connection to my company's network... I'd have to uninstall ICS to get VPN to work.. what a pain in the ass. Now I don't have to do that.

This thing is fucking great!!!!!.

THE FIREWALL IN THE LINKSYS ROUTER ACTUALLY WORKS!!!11

This weekend I had my cable company come out to check my line because my cable modem was going in and out. Well, since they really don't like when you have more than one computer connected to the modem, I disconnected my router. While the router was disconnected, some fucknut connected to a shared folder on my machine that had write access. Next thing I know, Norton AV is going fucking mad with nimda virus files in that shared folder. Since I've had my router I never had this problem, so now we know....

Don't share folders if you are connected directly to your cable modem without, at the very least, a software firewall. Get the router discussed in this thread and you can have multiple connections that are quasi-secure behind its built-in firewall. I say "quasi-secure" because thinking any network is totally secure is just foolish.

Bottom line, the Linksys router kicks some pretty major ass! :thumbs-up:

couldn't you have known that from trying to send files through aim?

also, i've haven't cared enough to change the administrator password, should i?

I can send files through trillian to some people, but not everyone.

I haven't changed the password either, but I don't think that really matters. Maybe someone else will tell us differently.

yea for some reason it sends to a select group of people. i could never get why it went to some and not others
