Quote:The NIC manufacturer doesn't matter, they all operate on the same protocol.true, but driver support can be a bitch if you are using an old discontinued card w/ a new OS or if you are using a new card (or any card for that matter) with an old OS. for the most part, xp (and even 2k) will auto detect new hardware and install the driver w/o you having to do anything other than click a few 'ok' buttons. 95/98(SE) on the other hand usually require the user to know which drivers to use and where to find them (downloaded to local drive or came on floppy/cd w/ the NIC). .//chris |
