I couldn't disagree more. Maybe Stanton lost his stuff, and maybe he wasn't worth the money he wanted. But all Yankee people spoke so highly of him (Cashman, Torre, Michael Kay, John Sterling, etc.) that he obviously was more than that for them.
What I had heard is Yankee scouts thought he had lost something off his fastball, and in today's economics they didn't want to pay him for his past. Just the fact that Cashman took time to apologize to him after they let him go means something.
