It's as significant as pitching no hit ball for 9 innings, but losing in the 10th.
When Joe Dimaggio began his streak, it was May 15th, and the Yanks were in 4th place. By the time his streak ended in July, they were in first. He started a streak of 16 games after his 56 ended, so he hit safely in 72 out of 73 games during that span.
36 games with a hit in each game, but the Phillies had their season ended. It would have been something special if the Phillies made the playoffs, and the streak continued all the way till the last game of the World Series, that would have been something. But in the end, 36 games, its 126 chances too late.
