I faked injuries when I was a kid playing hockey. Not really for attention, but as an excuse.
If I missed a play, or I was tired, or I messed up, I would scream and fall and writhe in pain, and then I'd figure anyone who thought I sucked would just say "oh, he actually got hurt. Poor timing for the kid".
It got to the point, that my parents told my coaches to just ignore me, and let me lay on the ice.
This was when I was about 7-10
