getting/saving/converting videos from YouTube?

I just heard a story today that some guy came up with a program to download content off of Youtube and is being sued by Youtube. The problem is there was nothing in the use and terms saying you couldn't download from the site. Plus they do not have copyrights on any of that content so I believe Youtube will lose.
