I knew they had to be somehow related; there's no other way anybody could know that much about Dexter's childhood unless he was there to experience it with him. Also explains how he knew who and where their biological father was.
And I assumed that kid Jeramy killed himself in prison. Nothing was ever mentioned about him again after that episode. If he were still alive Dexter would continue to try and help him. And Dexter said Jeramy took his advice because he "killed someone who deserved to die" which I thought implied himself because he took innocent lives (and had sex with men).
