Public education spend more on retards who AT BEST may end up becoming only slighly burdensome to their parents/family than we do on gifted students.
The thought is "well, the really smart kids don't need that much help". Yes, they don't need help. But think of how much more they could achieve if they were in classes that challenged them instead of making them fit into the dumbed down classes. They need to be surrounded by equally smart people and challenged intellectually so they excel more. The improvement of already brilliant people could result in exponential betterment of society.
But no, we have them holding pencils for the fat-tongued misfits.
