I don't care about using Wagner for 2 innings. They had to with Utley/Howard coming up in the 8th
I don't care about him falling asleep and having Werth steal 2 bases
I don't care about pinch-hitting Alou in the 8th when they were a baserunner away from him representing the tying run
I don't care about Sele not being able to keep them off the scoreboard in the 5th after they tied it at 5
I don't care about anything else that's been analyzed and overanalyzed about this game. The most important moment, the moment when they lost this game was in Delgado's at-bat in the 8th. Gotay walks from the right side (hard to do). Alou walks (hard to do). Wright walks. Beltran walks. 4 walks in the inning, not counting that perplexing intentional one to Reyes. Mesa comes in and throws four straight balls to Beltran after Alfonseca walked Wright. So what does Delgado do on the first pitch? Swing and miss at a breaking ball at his feet. He has been much more aggressive on first pitches lately, but for fucks sake, LOOK AT THE FUCKING SITUATION AND TAKE A FUCKING PITCH. That entire at-bat, and thus, game changed when he grounded out on a 1-1 count instead of being able to sit on a 2-0 fastball with the bases loaded. I knew once they ended that inning up only 2 runs that it wasn't going to be enough. What a terrible approach. Inexcusable.
