My camera does both, it auto-focuses while you're looking around, and will do sort of a speed-focus when you hold the shutter halfway down. Also, in dark, close shots (within 20 feet or so) it will emit a weird laser cross-hatch pattern, a "hologram" focusing method, they call it. The auto is pretty perfect every time.
But, if you don't want it, it's also got a manual focus ring.
I think that if you can get it at that price, it would be insane to pass it up, even if you do like your camera again.
Or wait and see if you can get the new F717 (new version of the same basic thing) at that price.
