i agree with Gomez.
Scorcese, like Oliver Stone, is in love with himself. His films consistently suffer from it. Watch Catch Me If You Can to see how subtle a director can be (spielberg). Daniel Day-Lewis did a fantastic job of acting. Leonardo didn't have a whole Hell of alot to work with b/c the script was so ham-handed on the personal relationships. This movie tris to do too much...give the revenge tale and Leo's focus, while also giving a sense of the times and New York. B/C of this. it kind of flutters around on focus, and the main story suffers. Scorcese is losing his characters by trying to do too much...and if he's going to focus on events...it needs to remain on the event on the focus.
Still a good flick in my book, though.
