Also Stephen King's "The Green Mile" was a very good adaption.
Anybody remember "The Outsiders" about a 1950's street gang? The movie version had a lot of young actors who all became famous. I think Patrick Swayze was the leader of the gang and River Phoenix was in it too. Great book and movie.

The novel of Jaws was much better than the book. Especially the affair between the marine biologist and Brody's wife.
