they make other boxes now, you just have to make sure it will replace the one you're supposed to be using. For example, TWC gives us a Scientific Atlanta box, 8610X - there is an 8610 also, but the X makes the two very different (I forget why, something to do with the PPV ordering or something). Anyway, I got the box initially to replace the 8610 and it only partially worked - I called them up, thy said I needed the one I have now, and it works like a charm.
Also, if you plan on buying one from someone on E-Bay, it gets cheaper, but make sure you get someone with a really high seller rating, and check the ratings for "excellent communication", because most times these are guys selling out of their basement or whatever, so you wanna deal with someone who will actually reply to any inquiry you make regarding it - especially if you can ask them about it before you bid on/buy it.
My plan is to keep the box when I move, get a dish and do it legit - this way I can enjoy digital goodness on my TV and still catch the WWE/PPV movie whenever I want. If DirecTV gets too costly, I might want to go the emulation route.
