I guess a movie is all but confirmed now - it would serve to tie everything up, and since the main guys more or less aren't dead it's doable. It might never happen but it leaves room for the possibility.
The last 10 minutes were a complete slap in the face though.
Highlights were Phil and Tony visiting Junior - that scene might be one of the best in the series IMO.
one of the funniest episodes ever as well. pauly had me rolling with the cat, and just about every other line out of his mouth. the ketchup scene, tony talking AJ out of going into the army are just a few that come to mind.
i agree with goat, they're basically screaming out for a continuation with the big blackout at the end.....or chase just jerking us off.
most people will hate this episode, but the sopranos is ultimately about family and thats basically what chase focused on. i like the sentimental scene of the family sitting down together, just like it ended many previous seasons.
I completely forgot, Paulie & that cat were some of the best scenes ever. Then Tony's reaction to him when he tells him how he moved Chris's picture & the cat followed it...fuckin' great.
another possibility is tony gets popped right as the screen went to black. the whole time, they focus on the man at the counter and how he keeps looking over at tony, and then him going into the bathroom, perhaps going to pick up the gun, and moments later a reaction shot of tony and then black.
"you probably don't even hear it when it happens."
the two possible things that happened that i've read that i like are what keyser said about him getting popped, or that the way tony acts in that diner, always on his toes looking around at every movement and noise just waiting to get killed is the way he will be forever now.
Six Feet Under was one of the greatest finales i've ever seen.
The ambiguity of the ending is what made it so perfect.
Everyone had their own expectations on how the show should end, and they can each come to their own conclusions.
Does Tony get hauled in by the FBI?
Does Tony get whacked?
The anticipation had my heart beating out of my chest. Meadow fiddling with the parking spot just heightened my nervousness. Was something about to happen to her?
Chase never wrapped up plot lines in neat little packages and this episode is no exception.
I read a very insightful post on a Sopranos message board....
"Each person has the ability to pass their own moral judgment on Tony.
If you thought he deserved to suffer the ultimate pain, to have his actions result in the death of a loved one you probably thought Meadow was about to get in the way of a bullet intended for Tony.
If you thought he deserved justice you probably think he was about to get pulled in by the FBI and thrown in jail.
If you though he was a good guy...well then maybe nothing happened.
And if you really don't know what to think...well that's the point.
To have come up with some sort of definitive ending would be for Chase to pass judgment on Tony, instead he leaves that up to us."
i like the "every one watching is tense, waiting for something happen - meanwhile tony is sitting there probably more relaxed then normal, just chilling with his family and enjoying a moment for once, while all of us get to feel what its like to be all tense like tony was/is probably most of the time" explanation
Tony IS DEAD and WAS CLIPPED by someone. We the audience have always seen the episodes from Tony's point of view, and the blackened silence is what Tony sees and hears when he finally gets clipped. Remember the conversation with Bobby at the lake? "I wonder if you hear the one that gets you" - the final episode answers that question. That is why they flashed back to it at the end of last weeks episode. He never heard the one that killed him.
also the wire is the best show of all time. can't wait for season 5
