I've just started using a modded controller (L3/R3 separate) and I have been having lot's of fun gunning mother bitches down with the AK-47. The IW-80 as a SEAL is really good to, but I still favor the M4SD on some maps.

You can't go wrong with the M60 on those laggy fucking maps. High rate of firepower and pretty good accuracy too.

If you're using Linksys you assign the PS2 and IP address, e.g. PC=192.162.1.100, PS2=192.162.1.101, XBOX=192.168.1.102

Ports that need to be open TCP 10070-10080, UDP 3658. The Mic's some times cut in and out and it's annoying as hell. Maybe with the HDD coming next month it'll fix it, doubtful though.

The Dlink has been reported to suck balls with SOCOM II and voice chat.

IW-80 is the shit and the SP-10 aint too shabby.

the n00b cannon (M-60E3) is a decent gun especially when you're trying to boost your ranking. many people hate it but i like the fact that each clip holds 100 rounds and it is fairly accurate.

as far as probs with the headset.....i don't know what to tell you. i use a MS MN-500 and it works very well......i have my PC, XBOX, and PS2 hard wired plus i got my other PS2 and a laptop set up wireless.

they all work flawlessly.


the microsoft MN-500 is practically being given away at best buy....i think it is 39.99 after a mail in rebate. the price drop is due to the fact that th MN-500 is 802.11b and the newer model (802.11g) is out.

The funny thing is my buddy (who is sick at this game, ranked in the hundreds) uses a dlink, same model as mine. I set up his LAN. He has no problems with his and can talk to his clan and others during games.

Which Mic are you using?

The only ones that have been reported to work are the SOCOM I, SONY's PS2 and Logitechs PS2 Mic's.

Did you ever update your firmware for the router?

see, this is where my confusion lies - if I turn on my PC, then run up and turn on the PS2 and load up SOCOM, when I run back to my PC and go into the admin settings, I'll see the PS2 IP in the table. But wouldnt the X-Box get that same IP if I turned it on instead of the PS2? Im not sure about how to permanently assign an IP to anything, opening ports is easy though.

I'm using the SOCOM I headset, also.

I use a ps2 logitech mic and yes i updated the firmware.

I can't use anything other than the noob cannon for now. I guess i just need to spend somemore time playing.


Do you guys use Comcast or some other cable modem provider? Comcast has said that they don't support routers, but I don't know why the fuck that would even be an issue. I'm wondering if DSl would be the better way to go.

You just assign it the IP number following your Computer like I showed you before. Then go to the advanced settings tab with the router and forward the ports.

I use DSL. Cable has it's ups and downs depending on how many people are using it in that neighborhood.

Downloading while playing will just screw the pooch. The games a fucking bandwidth hog that's for sure.

You see statements like this confuse me. I thought that when you use a router the nodes on your LAN are assigned an IP address through the DHCP scheme. Your IP address as assigned by your isp (for cable modems anyhow) is static and is only one address that never changes. Where do MAC addresses come into the picture?

I turn my PC on - I go right into the router settings and DHCP - theres (I think ) only one IP there, the PC (or theres nothign there since I havent done anything yet)

Regardless, I run upstairs and toss in SOCOM, then I connect. I run downstairs, and theres another IP - like Mad sais, something like 192.168.1.101. Fine. But if I were to do that with the xbox INSTEAD OF the PS2, the same thing happens with the same IP. Therefore, IP's are being assigned based on connectivity (seemingly).

if I assign the PS2 192.168.1.101 but decide to play my X-box, wont it use the PS2's IP? How does the router distinguish? I can assign the xbox 192.168.1.102, but wont the router just assign it the PS2's IP if I turn the xbox on first?

And DIG, I use TimeWarner (cable) and it flies, DSL is for the most part problematic, some people love it, most hate it.

I live in a fairly populated street, and I know for a fact the kids on both sides of my house use a cable modem so they must be on the same node as me - and I always have speeds near or at my ISP's caps (currently 3000 down/370 up).

i use a router and headset and all that, i have no problem with myconnection, can always talk to people, and have been booted from the game 5 or 6 times at most since i got it in november. i have no idea what the hell you guys are talking about, just my gameplay is just fine. oh and i like the mark 23 for handguns, and the ak105 as my rifle
