Quote:i want to change from the regular att service to GSM, how much extra does it cost per month?
It is actually cheaper, but there is less signal coverage. I got a 19.99 plan for my daughter - had 100 min. I needed to get a dual account though - no GSM in south Jersey.
Right now there are 2 phones that buy for 99, get 99 rebate - a Nokia 8390 & Siemens S46
why oh why didn't you come to me sooner? has teh barch ever given you bad advice on techie stuff? :-(
I too have cingular wireless service... a mutli-line / family plan.
I too have damaged phones to well beyond usable condition.
I too have been told to go fuck myself by cingular.
what have I learned? YOU DON'T HAVE TO BUY YOUR PHONE FROM CINGULAR!!!
You just need to get a compatible phone. Go to cingular.com. see what phones they are selling. then go to ebay and find a used one for an 1/8 of the price cingular changes.
I've replaced my $180 phone twice and still hasn't cost me more than $60.
you were right about the insurance. fuck the insurance. 4 bucks a month for year is more than the cost of a used phone.
Barch, the story ended well. We got a brand new phone for $29.99 and only a 1-year contract (it was supposed to be a 2-year contract for that price) -- plus, no activation fee and a free face place. woohoo! We ended up adding a 3rd line to the account and then cancelling the 2nd.
The Cingular rep was very nice and very helpful and very apologetic for the runaround we got.
btw... my contract with them just expired and I'm lookin' to change providers (for obvious reasons). You know anyone down this way that can vouch for the coverage area of t-mobile?
I'm a bit hesitant to get into a contract with company that keep changing it's name but, they seem to be about the cheapest mutli-line deal.
What's T-mobile? The new "gate phones" are supposed to have great reception...especially in the tough areas around here. They're about $119 at Cingular with a contract.
Dunno how much help this is, but I found switching to T-Mobile to be very easy. I ordered my phone on Amazon.com, got my phone, and after charging it, it took a whole 5 minutes to set it up, and the people they had were really nice and helpful.
As for service, I hardly ever get less than 2 bars, even inside buildings, but it may be totally different in NJ.
But their customer service has thus far been amazing
