Dent - Here's the deal on a 21" monitor versus a 19" flat screen. In essence, the size of the screen is the same. A 21 inch CRT only has 19" or so of viewable actual real estate. A 19" flatscreen is a true 19" display. So either way - you're getting 19" of display.

The benefits of having a flatscreen is the savings on real estate. It takes up less space and generally looks more cooler if you're into the visual presentation. The cons of having a flat screen is that they take up a tremendous amount of Video memory. If you're gonna get a flat screen be prepared to up your video memory to at least 32 MB if not more. Also, there are only about 2-3 reliable flat screens you should buy. NEC and SONY would be my recommendation. Stay away from any others. You'll have driver issues and/or the quality of the images are shit. We just went through a complete revamp of our PC's. They offered me a flat screen and I refused it. I got a Sony Trinitron Multiscan G520 21" monitor instead. It takes up more space but the quality is amazing.

Luna, you can pick up a really cheap 15" from someone and put your toolbars on that and use your good monitor as the canvas.

GA's first started doing it when the first 19" monitors came out. They all had their 15"'s just laying around, so they hooked 'em up next to the new 19". At least, that's the story I heard.

Thanks everyone. I'm convinced I'm going to get the 21" crt. Save the cash and better for gaming. If I ever get a second monitor, then I might think about a flat panel. But that's a long way off.

What you need to add to your computer for multiple monitor:

1 - PCI video card
1 - Monitor

I've used $35 generic video cards before, successfully. For monitors, picking up a 15" at a computer show will probably cost you around $45. You can buy 17" monitors from most online stores for around $99.

So, literally for under $100 you TOO can have multi-mon. :lookatme:

I really need to get my second monitor hooked up, however I just don't have the space for it.

Maybe I'll just buy another flat panel. :-D

I'm thinking of adding a 4x6 screen into my computer case for an extra monitor so I can put winamp in there or play PS2 games.

uhhhh...... if u have a geforce3 or greater (maybe even geforce2) it has nView technology. so you don't need to go out and buy a new video card Wink

Ok, I don't get it. Is it a daughter card? Or is it just a dual-head card?

If it's a dual head card, and you had one and didn't know...

1. Turn off the computer.
2. Load your gun.
3. Place barrel in mouth.
4. Pull trigger.

I checked out the link hc, and didn't see any pics of the actually connection for a second monitor. I really only skimmed, so I may have missed it. But, they seemed to be talking about the software end of it mostly.

Only GF4 Ti Series have dual-mon support. That new matrox card looks really cool. Amazing 3d performance and triple-head.

ok so i took out an old video card and put it into my other computer, so now there is two.
it picks up both cards and both monitors, but my problem is that the monitor plugged into the good video card is being picked up second, while the crappy one is picked up first. it says to go to control panal -> display -> settings, and i do that, but there is no option to control the display on the other monitor. and the good video card, i think i would be capable of doing this, but since its being picked up second its of no use. is there a way to control which video card is picked up first?
can someone im me and help me through this? my aim is drag0nkill

Go to your bios settings. In their under I believe it is Peripheral Configuration on a lot of boards (or just poke around til you find it, just don't make any other changes) is an option that says something about "init vga first" and the option will either be on PCI or AGP. If your good card is the AGP one then change the option to AGP.
