The wife loves Hardwood floor. I don't know if it is an Italian thing or her family, but she wants to put hardwood floor everywhere (so no carpet on the second floor). How hard is that to install?
it depends on if you're gonna put strips or tiles in. The strips are a tough install. If you've never done it, hire a professional. The tiles are a cake walk. Just have a table saw handy. if you want it to look right and you've never done it, hire someone. Trust me, if you fuck it up, it looks ugly.
Another option for a wood floor is Pergo. It's a big jigsaw puzzle. No nails, no glue, no nothing. The floor actually floats ontop of what ever surface you put it on. Concrete, linoleum, tile. real simple to install as long as you start the right way. I helped a friend install one. it took us a day to do a fairly good sized basement. The only thing to keep in mind is that if you put it in a basement, bathroom or kitchen, you have to use Pergo Glue. It seals the puzzle so water doesn't go through the crack to the subfloor. it runs about $6 a sq foot, $9 installed by a professional
sloats, trust me. When you move in, you'll see how much of an expert you become. I never knew one end of an electrical outlet from another until I bought my house. I just finished changing all the outlets and switches.
I love my house. I wouldn't go back to renting for anything, even though I have to do everything myself a little bit at a time. You'll still get credit card applications, more than now probably, but you won't get approved for anything for a long time. Plus, the tax breaks are great.
