| Opieanthony.org appears to be an offspring of Jon's http://opantpartypics.com considering the banner.
Perhaps he hijacked the site and is using the add rev from the framed banner.
Edit- As for the forum.com one....tough beans. They got to it first and its not like we own the opieanthony.........com name(s).

| ok... i could be wrong... but i think that that domain used to belong to Rottyiam (from SU)... to the best of my delusional memory, Rotty had it set up so that there was links to his SU feed (along with his daily replay feeds) as well as access to the messageboard... but, once again... i could be wrong...

| I have found that using multiple domains for the same site isn't very productive, but it is nice to be able to sit on the names that could be popular or valuable.

| ok... i just checked with one of my (reliable) SU sources...and YES, OA.org used to (and probably still does) belong to RottyIam from SU. He had it set up so you could get access to his live feed, anyone of his 5 daily replay feed (which ran a replay of each day's show in a 24hour loop)and his FTP. The FTP & feeds have been shut down for a while, but i imagine he still owns the domain.

| Yeah I understand that buying up every name is a luxury not a neccesity. Just that the site links to the board, I just wanted to give a heads up if this was known by matt or not and is it allright for our site to be forwarded to oa.org? That is why I put it up and before you get your panties in a bunch I only mentioned stingray owning oaforum.com as a joke who gives a shit it was just amusing.

That's called cyber-squatting. It is a frowned upon practice in the industry. Ypou wouldn't wanto to ruin your wonderful reputation, would you?

| Yes it's cyber squatting unless you snatch it up knowing that you can sell it back to a company that has an interest in it, then it becomes Domain Piracy.
We have a bunch of domains that we've bought and used in the past, but have nothing built on now.

| Wouldn't piracy be taking ownership of something that you didn't pay for, as in intellectual property? If you pay for the name, that would make you a 'legal' owner of it, no? I don't know, that's why I am asking.

| I never really agreed with the piracy term myself, but it usually occurs when someone registers a domain that is a trademark or company name with the intent to sell it back to them at a high price. You are attempting to profit off of their name or brand, that is why it's stealing.

Would intellectual property be considered a person's name, such as in the example of the name slash?
I guess one person can make a difference but most of the time they probably shouldn't.

| No, Faceman. See SLASH is a real person.
However, Faceman is a character name that someone created when they wrote the Pilot movie for The A-Team. So thus then inbyfacto, that would be considered pirating, 'cause you used a name that was created from the intellect of the individual who wrote the story without paying for it. Or maybe it is just Plaguerism, what do I know?

Funny story.
Both Sean and Gonzo went for that but for two way hay hay different reasons. I think it turned out that Opie (AKA Greg Hughes) held it all along.

| Well there are 2 questions that come to mind though, one, if the person took the name faceman, without prior memory of there being a character named faceman in the A-team, and wasn't really made aware of it until a former mod(read:IP) brought it up to him as an idea for a sig picm would it be considered a crime, in the eyes of the law? and 2, is slash's real name, slash? and not say...roy or brad, or something equally as inane as such.
I guess one person can make a difference but most of the time they probably shouldn't.

Ok, that made me laugh.
And Faceman, it's a very gray area. In the end it usually comes down to whether or not the owner is profiting of the domain, but it can be a person's name or that of a character. A perfect example is Springsteen just sued the person who registered brucespringsteen.com, he lost the case however because the person was making no money on the site.

Ehem... that was my idea.. she took that from me cause I was telling her about that in AI.. umm yea it was her idea... Dammit!
Saul Hudson had his name changed to SLASH, because SLASH was a nickname of his, not intellectual property.

In legal defenses, Ignorance is not an excuse for a crime. Now if the nickname was Donald Duck, there could be a legal issue... since it is a gray area.

| Faceman doesn't have a stick up his ass as previously stated by slash. Faceman was just asking a simple question. and quite frankly he is outraged by the insinuation(sp?)
