| O&A Board Regular Registered: Aug. 00 | Teq, about the game: Isles went down 4-0, got one in the 2nd, then one in the middle of the 3rd, then one with 27 seconds left. Parrish had 2 (new career high), Scatch had the other one. Yashin may be an alternate, but he was not brought in for his locker room leadership. I haven't heard much about his personal skills, not that I think they are non-existent, but Peca is the true captain of the team, and that is why he was named such. He needs to do the speaking, in the locker room and in the press (which he is starting to understand and do), while Yashin needs to keep up his on-ice production, which has began to slip again unfortunately. The reason I brought up Lapointe is because he is an alternate for all of the home games (should've been the captain last year when they gave it to Kenny, but that's another issue unto itself), and since he sees limited ice time per game, he needs to make his presence felt in other ways. I really like Lappy and appreciate all that he's done for the team the past few years. I just think that they need to look within first, and he's a place to start. After that they might have to bring in some outside assistance, and with only 2 days till the trade deadline (day and a half really) Mad Mike better get cracking soon. It sucks that they don't have any more games till after the deadline, because it'd be nice to see how the team reacts to what Peca said after last night's loss to Ottawa, without any major personnel shakeups occurring. | O&A Board Regular Registered: Aug. 00 | All right, they stood pat at the deadline, only dealing for Van Impe, which should be a good deal. They need some defensive help NOW. Tonight was ok, the result could've been better. Kenny got his first point in a long while, Yashin netted his 30th of the year, Bates got 2 assists; all in all not too bad of a night offensively. I heard the end, can't believe Aucoin couldn't put that one-timer home at the beginning of OT. Would've been real nice. At least we got the point, put a whole game between us and the Devils (Nieuwendyk? WTF??). Thursday night against Vancouver should be interesting, the Canucks are rolling, won all 5 on this current road trip, last game is at the Coliseum (downed the Rangers tonight too). I'll be there Thursday, and Saturday, hopefully they can start racking up some points at home again. Let's Go Isles!!! Stretch drive is on! | O&A Board Regular Registered: Aug. 00 | Great weekend for Islander hockey, and not just because I was at both games ;) The penalty shot save was amazing, almost a full split by Ozzie. Then yesterday was great, finally a win over the Wild. It was a great game by both teams, chances each way (Peca and Lapointe on the breakaway, crazy stuff). Working on solidifying 6th, hopefully they can go after Ottawa Wednesday night (after taking care of the Rangers Monday of course) and make a run for a higher seed - would definitely be nice. God damn Kvasha, the slug comes through big time when it's needed most, gets the number one star. Lapointe finishes it off strong w/ the empty netter, helluva job to ice the game. Kip Miller keeps it up. Ozzie with some big saves. Van Impe played well in his introduction to the rivalry. And best of all, the Rangers fall once again, and the Pat LaFontaine Trophy belongs to the Islanders for a year! | O&A Board Regular Registered: Aug. 00 | Teq, I wasn't watching the game (No FSNY up here in NH), but from what I heard on the radio broadcast it seemed like there weren't going to be any brawls at the end. It just sounded like the Isles totally outplayed the Rangers for the final minute and a half after Blackburn was pulled, and that it was basically just the Isles dumping it out and having Lappy beat the Blueshirts to the puck. I was thrilled that Steve Webb got the 3rd star though, sounded like the hit on Fleury at the blue line in the 2nd was a killer. [email protected] Currently a student at Franklin Pierce College. As I'm typing I'm listening to the aftermath of Carins's "sucker punch" on Bonk - nice thought, a little late. I knew Snow would start either tonight or tomorrow, wasn't sure which I'd rather have. Ozzie has played pretty well against the Leafs this year, so hopefully that'll continue tomorrow. Also, Isles can't reach that friggin 11 games over .500 mark. If they want to move up in the standings, they have to take advantage of these head-to-head matchups w/ the teams ahead of them. Well, off to Toronto. Let's Go Isles!!! I was listening to the radio broadcast, and they read the game lineup from the last time the Isles beat the Caps, a 2-0 win at the old Caps Center in 97 if I remember correctly. Tommy Salo and Eric Fichaud in net; the only 2 left from that team are Jonsson and Lapointe. Strange shit - they can beat the Flyers 3 of 4, 1 of 2 from the Avs, 2 1-goal games with the Wings, and they can't beat the fucking Capitals!
