| Psychopath Registered: Sep. 01  | The best player for the Yankees last night was Derek Lowe. Magic number down to 21, baby!!! Unfortunately, there is no way to clinch vs. Red Sox in the next series at The Stadium, just to watch them suffer more, but it doesn't matter. BTW, if Roger next decision is a win, he will tie the best start in MLB history, and since it would be the 15th straight win, he will break Whitey Ford's straight decisions record of 1961. (Will Duque get his first 'W' today?) If it's even possible, Ugeth Urbina did worse than Lowe did last night, and I am thrilled that he failed his physical with us earlier this year when we were going to trade for him. The Yankees have a 7 game loss-column lead on the Red Sox with 26 to play which means our magic number is a lowly 19!!! Yankees are amazing how they've won these two games in almost identical fashion. "See ya in October." | ||||

| Psychopath Registered: Sep. 01 | Thanx for the welcome, Aust. I've been screwing up magic numbers ever since I knew how to figure them out, but here's my best crack at it. Games left: 162 - (80 + 56) = 26 Add one: 26 + 1 = 27 Subtract lead in loss column 63 - 56 = 7 So that is 20. Earlier in this same page, however, I said it was 19, I am not sure, I suck at math, but MLB says to "determine the number of games yet to be played, add one, then subtract the number of games ahead in the loss column of the standings from the closest opponent." | ||||
