| O&A Board Regular Registered: Oct. 00  | Not that I care about the insensitivity that exists on the board or the fact that many things may be blown out of proportion on the board, I just want to make one small comment. Use of the "Patrick Ewing looks like a monkey" statement as an example of racism on the board or on the show is very weak. Patrick Ewing DOES resemble a monkey, much like John Elway has the face of a horse. These statements have nothing to do with racism as they are very legitimate comments. To say that any black person looks like a monkey is racist, but to say Patrick does is merely stating a well arguable opinion.  School's out, shouldn't you have a job? The Slackjaw School of Satire and Sodomy has completed the removal of all carcinogens..... now they are Tequila's mess! I get turkish jokes, grkqt gets anal jokes, brokendick gets one-eye jokes, gagootz got patti jokes, seph gets chink jokes, and yes, brain and kid get black jokes. 99% of it is nothing personal, and if you can't tell that by now there isn't much anyone else can do for you. I'm not just arguing for the sake of arguing, this time. equating me to a monkey has such an overtone to it. there is a stigma attached to black people being monkey, primates or anything less than human. to me, it's more than skin color involved in that type of comment. A common derogatory term for black people was "Alabama Porch Monkey", can you see the maliciousness involved in that type of comment. well, the same holds true for me with being called a monkey of any kind. I'm not just trying to be a dick here. I made the eye joke to show the levity with which I am approaching this conversation with you. I don't consider you a racist, I'm just saying it's different. This time it's not just semantics, it's actually something that I find very offensive. and while I'll admit that it was probably not meant in the way that I took it. I just felt like I had to say something, so I did.

You just wouldn't be able to fathom it unless you had been through it. It is exactly this type of attitude an insensitivity that makes me so frustrated with racism. you fail to see the err of your ways and would rather pawn it off on me being oversensitive. well, I may have taken this joke too seriously, but your failure to understand how insulting someone's race in such a way is different than making fun of someone's physical appearance just leaves me mystified.

Point is, it's funny, we all laugh, until it hits is squarely in a sensitive spot (such as your dismissing my opin as based on the color of my skin). And WE ALL have sensitive spots...all important to us, perhaps...but you have to recognize that thats the way it works. If the humor's gonna zip around, stuff on and over the edge...it's gonna eventually hit a soft spot. Point is to realize others have same spots, and most brush it off, and not lament it for 72 posts. You're race-sensitivity, which you have every right to have, is no different than BrokenJaw taking exception to an eye comment, Tequila with hubcap stealing comment or anything else that gets tossed around. The point is, no one's hopping a band wagon...you race, my weight our ethanticity is all up for grabs in the wild humor tht sometimes frequents the board. if you laugh about one, and not at your own, you have to take a good look at yourself, cuz in the end...it's no different. you are entitled to feel the way you feel, but you got to look at the big picture too. | ||||

If BrokenJaw has kids, they will not necessarily be born with one eye. If I have kids, they will be black without question. They will have to endure the same insensitiviities that I have, and those before me, and those before them. I'm not asking that everyone stop posting jokes, only that they pay attention to how it may make someone else feel, joke or not. by the way, for the tequila's a spic joke, alledgedly he's not even spanish. for those that brought up the chink jokes about seph, get a fucking clue.
