O&A Board Regular Registered: Oct. 00 | Very tough loss today, but it was a very entertaining game, and it did last 14 innings. So after a loss like that this early in the season, just be proud that most of our pitchers did really well, and move on. We did take 2 out of 3, lets not forget that. Indeed FB, typical Mets luck with the Cubs rainout today. 1. 94 Wins and NL East Title by the Mets this year 2. Hate the Braves with a passion 3. All 5 Starters have winning records this year 4. Psychopath Registered: Oct. 00 | Mo on the DL but at least it wasn't his fault. START MARK JOHNSON AND TELL VALENTIN TO FUCK OFF PLEASE!!! --------------------------------------------- "Hit Dog" Hits Disabled List Vaughn placed on sidelines with non-displaced fracture The Mets will be without the services of first baseman Mo Vaughn, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list Monday. (Photo: Ed Tsunoda) NEW YORK -- The New York Mets received bad news Monday as they were forced to place first baseman Mo Vaughn on the 15-day disabled list with a non-displaced fracture of his right hand. Vaughn, 34, was hit by a pitch Thursday afternoon at Shea Stadium by Pittsburgh Pirates starter Jimmy Anderson, and reported a large amount of swelling in the injured right hand. He was able to start Friday against the Atlanta Braves, going 1-for-5 with a single and two strikeouts, but manager Bobby Valentine elected to rest Vaughn on Saturday and Sunday in Atlanta. "He has a crack there," Valentine said, speaking via telephone on WFAN Radio in New York. "When you get swelling like that and the next day it doesn't go down at all, I had a real bad feeling playing him the days I did, but as a new player, he wanted to play real bad. "He probably could play, because he'll gut out the pain. The problem the doctors have is, if he gets hit again by a pitch or on a tag play, he'll displace it and then we'd be without him for a couple of months." In four games this season with the Mets, Vaughn is batting .176 (3-17) with one home run and two RBI. He hit the 300th home run of his career on Wednesday facing Pittsburgh starter Kip Wells, a two-run blast over the right-center field wall at Shea Stadium. In Vaughn's absence, the Mets will look to bench players Mark Johnson and John Valentin to fill the void at first base. Johnson, 34, is batting .250 (1-4) this season in five games. Last season with New York, he hit .254 with 6 home runs and 23 RBI in 64 games (118 at-bats). A left-handed hitter, he is unlikely to play against left-handed pitching; he has not recorded a base hit off of a southpaw since 1997. Valentin, 35, is batting .100 (1-10) in five games this season. His fielding error in the eighth inning of yesterday's game allowed the Braves to tie the game at two, a game Atlanta would go on to win in 14 innings when Marcus Giles homered off of Saturo Komiyama. Vaughn was making his return to everyday action after sitting out the entire 2001 season with a torn left bicep muscle. He was acquired from the Angels on December 27, 2001 for right-hander Kevin Appier and cash. "In two weeks we hope we'll be able to patch it together," Valentine said. "[Vaughn]'s a real professional guy and he's worked real hard to get where he wants with his swing. Now, after taking last year off, he'll have to sit out two weeks." NOTES: Mike Piazza performed some squatting exercises after the Mets arrived in Chicago yesterday, where they open a three-game series with the Cubs tomorrow at 2:20 p.m. ET. Piazza's left knee, bruised in a home plate collision with Atlanta's Chipper Jones on Saturday evening, is described as being discolored but he is expected to play in tomorrow's game... the Mets will make a corresponding roster move to replace Vaughn on their 25-man active roster. Psychopath Registered: Feb. 01 | I swear to God if any moderator gets pissed at hammersavage for having too much under his "sig pic" and force him to take those pictures of Dawn Marie off, I will personally hire someone to beat the fucking shit out of them. Oh yeah, back to the post, anyone know if Piazza will be back for tomorrow's game against the Cubbies? I hope so, our lineup only looks reeeeeeeeeally good if BOTH Vaughn and Piazza are out instead of fucking A if Piazza is still around. I can't believe after last year, I'm actually saying that about a Met team. Oh yeah, and please I hope Bobby V goes with either Mark Johnson all the way or a Mark Johnson/Joe McEwing platoon instead of a Johnson/John Valentin platoon in Mo's absence. I know he's only played two games so it's no time to rush to judgment, but Valentin is too inexperienced at first. I know McEwing is ALSO inexperienced at first, but he's alot more athletic and able to handle it I think. And with this callup, isn't Timo Perez gonna be out of options when it's time for Mo to come back, meaning they might lose him in two weeks? That makes no sense to call him up, then, unless they either cut a pitcher or McKay Christiansen has options and he can be sent to the minors, which I don't know the status of his options left. Start Mark Johnson instead of Valentin though, although i wish Burnitz or someone could play 1st, so that McEwing could play everyday. Hopefully Traschel pulls a gem out of his ass tomorrow, that game wont be easy. 1. 94 Wins and NL East Title by the Mets this year 2. Hate the Braves with a passion 3. Leiber has pitched a brilliant game, though, to his credit. Let's go Mets, hopefully they can pull this one out in the 9th. Some big bats coming up... Metal / Wrestling / Baseball Ninja / pr0n | ||||

O&A Board Regular Registered: Oct. 00 | Tough game today for the Mets offense and we managed to do the little things wrong again. Our defense must get better, which i am more than confident that it will. Pretty funny that, according to WFAN's broadcast of the game, WGN was displaying a clock that timed how long Traschel took between ptiches. It got up to 32 seconds at one point i believe, and the limit is supposed to be 12. LOL quote: Welcome aboard Diamond Dust, another very knowledgeable Mets fan, and baseball fan in general. Psychopath Registered: Feb. 01 | I'm REEEEEALLY getting annoyed with these errors lately, but that will change. The good thing is that the things that are struggling are the two areas we know we'll be good in: offense and defense. The pitching has been FUCKING A, and that was the concern! If Estes and Astacio can sustain the success they've had early on and that bullpen is as good as it looks (David Weathers is my new God, next to the WWF's Brock Lesner and Michael Peca), we's gonna be havin' a good ol' time this summer. My only fear is when the offense and defense play like they are supposed to, the starters start playing lousy, but you can't complain with what you've seen so far. It's a 4-4 team, but a 4-4 team I feel good about seeing as the only weaknesses shown so far I KNOW will be strengths in time, and the percieved weaknesses don't seem too weak so far. And how about Alomar and Piazza? That was fucking sweet. Robbie's gonna give pitchers hell once he snaps out of his annual slow start slump that some stats I've seen have shown he's got a history of having. When he busts out, watch out. He's the best complete player to ever don a Met uniform. PERIOD. 1. 94 Wins and NL East Title by the Mets this year 2. Hate the Braves with a passion 3. It's really just a matter of time before everyone gets started. Hopefully Alomar and Piazza can get into a groove after today. A healthy Fonzie is also a great sign. I'm glad this is the only trip to Chicago this season, I can never catch any of these damn 11:30 games out here!

O&A Board Veteran Registered: Feb. 01 | The errors are sickening. The only reason we keep Ordonez is for his glove and even that sucks these days. Can anybody tell me why you try to pick off a runner on 2nd base when you have 2 out in the ninth, the count in your favor against the batter at the plate, and a pitcher who can throw in the high 90's? What was that about? Forget the runner, get the last strike and go home. I believe in the Faith... that can save me. I believe in the hope and I pray...
