Basically, the band has been "touring" the country visiting Guitar Center stores, holding auditions for a new guitarist to replace the one who left the band. An interesting note. Anything you play can NOT be copyright, and can be used by Limp Bizkit in audio, video, or recorded form of any sort. Other big words which basically translated to the fact that if you play something, they are fully authorized to steal it and use it on a CD. The artist agrees to zero compensation and zero rights over the track, and will get their name in the liner notes "if possible." No guitar solos. No playing cover songs. No playing copyrighted material. No playing Limp Bizkit songs. This effectively means that you're forced to play something that you made up, but don't have a copyright for. You may see where this is going. FM99 is having a field day with it. They're referring to this as "Fuck Fred Durst Friday", taking calls in from people who went. But unless you've read this carefully, I don't think you understand what happened. Limp Bizkit now has over 200 guitar parts, written by various artists around here, which are unowned and not copyrighted. Limp Bizkit now owns these riffs. Limp Bizkit just stole 200 pieces of material right out from under these guitarists' noses If any of you know anyone who's considering going to these tryouts, show them this message. i'm pissed, and i wasn't even there.. nor do i like limp bizkit, but this is totally wrong... -tiffarie | ||||

| Hanger-On Registered: Jan. 70 | Hey I'm no fan of Fred Durst or Limp Bizkit, but do you expect him to actually PAY these people who are auditioning for his band? Of course they have to keep all the guitar samples so they can re-listen and decide who they want to bring back. And of course the person who's trying out loses all their rights to it. These schmos are trying out for a huge band. They have no bargaining chips. If the people don't like it and think they can get famous on their own, then don't audition. This is nothing different. If you send stuff into the Opie and Anthony show for one of their 18 billion contests, it becomes the property of the show and legally they can play it on air even if you don't win the contest, or do anything else they want with it, since you gave it to them. Every contest and audition in the world is run like that. If Limp Bizkit "steals" bits from people to play on a track and everyone likes it, what do you think they'll do? Due to greed, don't you think they'll bring that person back as part of the band so they can make more money off that guitarist? You can't think that Fred is dumb enough to exploit thousands of guitarists and not realize there will be backlash if he publishes their music without compensating them.  | ||||

| Hanger-On Registered: Jan. 70 | It's possible, yes. But he's not dumb enough to do it. The sad fact is, that all rock guitarists play like 4 cords. They all sound the same. If Limp Bizkit didn't make these rules, then idiots would sue them in a year when a record comes out for "stealing" their material. A buddy of mine (in Boston) used to play the guitar riff from Glycerin by Bush (from Britain) like two years before the song came out. Even if Limp Bizkit doesn't "steal" any bits from the people who auiditioned for them, since so many guitarists sound the same and play she same cords, someone would have whined about them stealing an idea. This is the only way around it, and everyone else intelligent running an identical contest would have set up identical rules. | ||||

Real artists appreciate other artists and respect the art of creation enough not to steal it. I actually want to throw up that I loved their music so much...well, if it's even theirs....
