| Hanger-On Registered: Mar. 02  | I would like to dedicate my first offical "FU" to our president, Mr. George Bush, for preaching his brand new "Abstinence" ideas and bullshit. I am in High School and I have Sex Ed. and my teacher told us all about his ideas to enforce abstinence to be taught in school once again like in the friggin old days before I was born and black and white television was new! Who is he kidding? Kids are still going to have sex, why would he waste money on this bullshit. What us kids need to learn about is protection because it's already a given that sex will happen in highschool. I would elaborate but I am going to go have sex. Just kidding... or maybe I'm not??? | Psychopath Registered: Jan. 02 | Well, preaching abstinence to teens isn't going to work, I agree there. It didn't work on me, and it didn't work on any girl in my high school. However, I think Mr. President is on to something. Now, I graduated high school about five years ago (Oh my, I can't believe it's been that long). I was one of few of my friends that did NOT have a baby before graduating or dropping out. In fact, at my high school, it was cool to have a baby (so, I guess you all know I wasn't cool in high school). Yeah, it was what the girls did to join the popularity clique. There is nothing wrong with having sex. And, there is nothing wrong with having a baby so long as you make enough money to support it and yourself without the help of anyone -- and that includes babysitting or day care. These young girls think it's all about them and what they want. Geez. He also said a quote from Bush about how it (abstinence) is the difference between self preservation and self destruction. and that contraception fails 85% of the time. In fact a couple weeks ago, Colin Powell was supporting condom use in Africa and got under fire from Bush supporters because the idea of condoms goes against what the Bush administration stands for even though it saves lives. If you recall, the official statement that came out from the Bush administration was that they don't disagree with anything that Powell said about the need for condoms and birth control, and that everything he said was in line with what the administration says since Powell opened his speech by saying that abstinence is the best and only way to prevent disease and pregnancy (and you can't really argue with that). I haven't heard anything from Bush where he said that contraception fails 85% of the time, but I guess if the unbiased and dilligent reporter Bill Maher said it, then it must be accurate. | ||||

| Psychopath Registered: May. 01 | Ethics and morality is something that isn't taught in school. View every statement about abstinence as if it were your own child. I am not a prude, but a realist. Single parenting, the birth(no pun intended) of the abstinence comment, is an issue in this country. We all pay for it indirectly. Knowing what I know, and if I had a daughter, I would try to preach rational thought, and consequences of being a young mother. I have no problem with President Bush's comments on abstinence. We should explain what it means to our children and offer our opinions and listen to theirs. Family is what keeps this country strong. If you don't like President Bush, would you rather have Al Gore? His wife would take away every First Admendment Right given to us. If you remember, when he was govener of Tennessee, his wife was a huge fan of censorship. She even created legislation, and she wasn't even in office. BTW I would have loved to have seen what Gore would have done with terrorism, Clinton was so effective...too busy in the Oval Office, I guess. Would this board be around?
