I don't know anything about your specific circumstances, but with living life comes a lot of understanding. My folks weren't perfect, in fact my Dad was the reason I ran to the Navy, to get away. 14 years later we get along pretty well, and I understand some of where he came from.. Not totally, but things are much better. Just in time for him to be diagnosed with Alzheimers. Just food for thought. Some people think I am a psycho, others know it! | ||||

| O&A Board Regular Registered: Oct. 00 | well, personally, i have a great relationship with my parents, but on the other hand, i grew up with a lot of friends who were taken in because their parents didn't get it. doesn't mean they don't love you. amy, you're having problems with your mother, well, guess what, you're 17, you're not supposed to get along. if you feel she's exerting too much control, it's probably because she's afraid of losing you. you're at the age where you're getting ready to leave home, and, if you're the oldest, she'll be just as worried about it as you are. the most important thing you need right now is communication. thinking that you'll be ok, because you have a boyfriend is a big mistake. you're way too young to be jumping into any kind of commitment. talk to your mom, tell her how you feel. she probably has a lot of the same feelings. your priorities right now need to be finishing school and getting off to college. after that, all kinds of things will change. but the worst thing you could do, is argue and alienate your mom. she may not have the same views as you, but there is a very special bond there which can be irreparable if you break it. and if worst comes to the worst, you know, i have an inflatable mattress and you're always welcome.
