O&A Board Regular Registered: Oct. 00 | I have to second that FU. I got socked by the same virus two, TWO times. McAffee missed it both times when it came in, didn't find it until the PC started freaking out and I ran a 4 hour "scan all files" scan. Then it finds it, but can't do anything about it except delete the corrupt files. I go to there site for info and it tells me I have to restore the missing files from the install disk. One problem, the virus renames the files with no way to know exactly which files they were. Just gotta love re-installing windows because some jackass was bored and had nothing better to do with their vast computer knowledge than fuck with people. A hearty FU to all you little weasels that get your kicks out of writing viruses! Still one spot open! I am pleased to announce that DevonGetTheTable is the newest addition to the Slackjaw family! Report any transgressions to me.

Psychopath Registered: Sep. 00 | Did you run McAfee while in Safe MODE? I think I know what virus you are talking about. I clean a customers machine at work with McAfee and it got rid of most it. I then went into the registry and got rid of the rest. It took a few hours but I got rid of it without reinstalling the software. Unfortunaly the assholes that write these thing are too smart for their own good. The best thing to do besides keeping your anti-virus up to date is to keep an image backup of your harddrive. Then you don't have to reinstall everything over and over. If your harddrive dies you have a backup and boom your up and running in no time. I use Nortons Ghost and Power-Quest Drive Image Pro.

O&A Board Regular Registered: Jan. 01 | There are certain precautions to take. Viruses usually come because of goddamn Microsoft Outlook proliferating it so damn much. First make sure if you are going to open an attachment read what the file type is. If it is a pic itll say .jpg or .gif or something like that. If it is a virus it will usually say britneyspears.jpg.vbs. The last extension is always the true one. Don't ever open a vbs file and exe too. There are some viruses that open just by you opening the email but those can be fixed easily. O&A Board Regular Registered: Jan. 01 | I think I had something similar last year - unless someone on the board can specifically help you with it, your best bet might be to call Symantec and have tech support help you out - dont do the phone walk-through, because they'll hit you for $30 - have them fax or email you the clean-up (its free). Sorry to hear, these damn things are always interesting until you get infected with one. This message was edited by hornygoatweed23 on 6-11-01 @ 10:04 PM
