Just a quick question here. There is a tremendous amount of pic posting on this board and the issue of hotlinking comes up alot. My question is, is it ever allowable to allow a pic to stay up that is from a website that one doesnt own. Im not talking sig pics here but other things. Like if someone finds a pic on espn.com and wants to post it here, can they or is that forbidden. Is it ok if they do it once and dont abuse it? What are the acceptable guidelines here. Im just curious is all, there is no major issue on the board right now that this question pertains too, its more of just a general knowledge question:)

Happy Holidays

I don't have a heart of gold and I don't grow one later, OK? But relax. There's other people a lot nicer coming up -- we call them losers.

Actually I've been wondering this myself, since hotlinking has been a strike-worthy offense to some, yet is done all the time and no one questions it... usually.

I really have no issue with people hotlinking to images in threads so long as they don't hotlink their sig pics.

I didn't think he should have been banned for that. Slash banned him based on the his history & the fact that he was only allowed back on the site so we could know what name he was posting under.

Thanks for clearing that up, Froy.

Cranky was on his 4th return to oa.com under a deal he made with me after I agreed with Sean that we would let him back on the site (to know what name he was posting under).

Cranky was breaking the deal at every turn and was begging to be banned 2 or 3 days after his return. So I gave him strikes for hotlinking just so he knew he was on borrowed time. With 2 strikes in he decided to start a battle with me, which I chose to ignore, and finally an all out fight with Froy over board policy. He was told numerous times in that bangbus.com thread in GD (Keiththecop) by Froy and members alike to shut up, and that it was none of his buisness, but he kept pushing. He brought it all on himself.

I think it all started with the Declaration of Independence -- the idea that we had the inalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. That pursuit is what took America from the revolution to the computer age in 200 years. But the progress has come at a price. The obvious being the people that were exploited to make it possible; the not so obvious being us, the first group of people that were given no obvious frontiers to conquer. We hear stories that about the good old days that don't seem to apply anymore. It's a generation gap that leaves us without role models. But the bright side is that without role models, there are no roles. Maybe that's what the 60s were all about -- getting rid of the roles. But what do we replace them with? Without any guidance, what do we replace them with? Without any guidance, the choices become overwhelming. Sometimes it just makes everything feel hopeless. So we destroy our bodies in the search of an ideal. Try to salvage relationships that don't work. We feel we must do something, instead of doing something that we feel. It is the prison of self-imposed momentum, and the sad part is that we get used to it. It reminds me of a song I heard the other day. It's called "The Going Nowhere Fast." But the people I have met here have shown me another side of Nowhere. They've pointed out the beautiful irony that stagnation makes it easy to stop and smell the roses, if we just let it. What would we be if we had nothing to rebel against? Well we could finally be ourselves, the first group of people who stopped looking for the answers long enough to appreciate the questions. And all we have to do is to make our own Declaration of Independence. We can embrace the right to life and liberty by simply realizing that happiness exists -- not to pursue, but to accept. After that the only challenge would be to make sure with the rest of our lives that we weren't just another fad. I don't know, it's an idea. What do you think?

Ok, I gotcha. Just wanted to make sure he wasn't banned out of confusion. Come to think of it, I remember him having a few screenames.

If you like it so much you can be pimp_wrist.

I hotlink pictures at times, I agree that as long as you are not hotlinking a sig pic it is ok. Cause who wants to go to the trouble of uploading a sig onto their own server to post it once? Or by the time you upload it to post it the point of posting it for the joke is probably gone. Plus with todays servers who knows if the pic will work or not? Cranky Ass is an ok guy but he is one of those rebel without a cause guys. he just wants to be the one who pushes the establishment just to be the one who did.
