O&A Board Veteran Registered: May. 00	I was thinking about GS's weekly awards and I thought, "Hey, why dont we do a year-end awards for oa.com" we could go through things back here and then post it sometime next week. We dont have to have all traditional categories but a few would be ok. Things like Post of the year, FU award for most FU's and things like, "attention whore of the year", Biggest Post whore award. I think it would be fun and give the board something to talk about. So what do you guys and gal, think. If not I could just do it on my own and you can just follow, but I thought it could be something we could do as a group being that since certain people are gone we are all on the same page again. Happy Holidays I don't have a heart of gold and I don't grow one later, OK? But relax. There's other people a lot nicer coming up -- we call them losers.

O&A Board Regular Registered: Dec. 00	"Post of the Year" might not be do-able, for the simple reason that there is so many to look at. "Thread of the Year" would work though. Sounds like a good idea. But seriously I like the year end thing and we can do a voting thing also. We can link up one of those free ballot counters like I used with tripod. We can narrow it down to 10 people and have people vote on poster of the year, etc etc. Maybe jeff can implement the vote ability we had on the old site this once somehow? Hanger-On Registered: Jan. 70	The catagories aren't the biggest problem. Here's what we need as far as I can see. 1- we should be the ones to narrow it down to about 5 people per catagory. 2- a voting system, either jeff can set up polls for us for this one post. Or I can use my old tripod voting system for polls on the site hopefully it might work but I dunno? So the main problem is how will votes be counted? Hanger-On Registered: Jan. 70	Well froy has a point but I believe it would be more fun if the members had a chance to be involved, I mean how many times do the Oscars go to the people who SHOULD win or even people who should be nominated in the 1st place? I personally think WE should narrow it down to 5 choices per catagory and then the members should be allowed to vote. The whole point of this idea was to give the members some involvement. AIM: SmarterChild Write To Me Here I think it all started with the Declaration of Independence -- the idea that we had the inalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. That pursuit is what took America from the revolution to the computer age in 200 years. But the progress has come at a price. The obvious being the people that were exploited to make it possible; the not so obvious being us, the first group of people that were given no obvious frontiers to conquer. We hear stories that about the good old days that don't seem to apply anymore. It's a generation gap that leaves us without role models. But the bright side is that without role models, there are no roles. Maybe that's what the 60s were all about -- getting rid of the roles. But what do we replace them with? Without any guidance, what do we replace them with? Without any guidance, the choices become overwhelming. Sometimes it just makes everything feel hopeless. So we destroy our bodies in the search of an ideal. Try to salvage relationships that don't work. We feel we must do something, instead of doing something that we feel. It is the prison of self-imposed momentum, and the sad part is that we get used to it. It reminds me of a song I heard the other day. It's called "The Going Nowhere Fast." But the people I have met here have shown me another side of Nowhere. They've pointed out the beautiful irony that stagnation makes it easy to stop and smell the roses, if we just let it. What would we be if we had nothing to rebel against? Well we could finally be ourselves, the first group of people who stopped looking for the answers long enough to appreciate the questions. And all we have to do is to make our own Declaration of Independence. We can embrace the right to life and liberty by simply realizing that happiness exists -- not to pursue, but to accept. After that the only challenge would be to make sure with the rest of our lives that we weren't just another fad. I don't know, it's an idea. What do you think?
