quote:

BOSTON (Reuters) - Mike Mussina retired the first 26 batters in order before Carl Everett lined an 0-2 pitch into left-center field to spoil his bid for perfection as the New York Yankees beat Boston 1-0 in the American League on Sunday.

Mussina took a perfect game into the ninth and got a vital defensive play by Clay Bellinger when the utilityman dived full-length at first base to get his glove on a groundball for the first out.

After fanning Lou Merloni for his 13th strikeout, Mussina quickly got ahead of pinch hitter Everett, who was batting for Joe Oliver.

Battling a right knee injury, Everett fell behind 0-2 before taking a pitch. The former All-Star lined Mussina's next offering into left-center field for a clean single.

Darren Lewis ran for Everett but Mussina got Trot Nixon to ground out to complete his fourth one-hitter and 17th career shutout.

That must be sooo heart breaking to be one strike away from being in the history books and being perfect for one day atleast. I would have thrown a tantrum, and no one would have blamed mussina for killing everet, shit even boston doesn't like him, lol.

I wanna slit your throat and fuck the wound
I wanna push my face in and feel the swoon
My wormwood meets your pesticide
You'll never get out, coz you were never alive
I am infinite, I am the infant finite
Come a little closer and I'll show you why

im not a yankee fan, but i have to praise mussina for the performance he put up yesterday. 1 strike away from a perfect game mustve been tough for him to swallow.

The one guy i do feel bad for is Cone. He probably pitched one of his best games this year, he went 8 1/3 innings giving up only 1 run and 6 hits. He has my vote for comeback player of the year.

You have to give Moose so much credit for keeping his composure...it had to have been heartbreaking for him, but he just simply said "it wasn't meant to be." That shows the true class that should always accompany a Yankee uniform. On a side note, my friend Steve is planning a road trip to Boston with every intent to kill Carl Everett...anyone with good marksman skills might want to contact him. :) ***disclaimer*** I am not endorsing violence***

why do I say I'm fine when it's obvious I'm not?
why's it so hard to tell you what I want?
why can't you just read my mind?

And of all the people, why'd it have to be Everett? Let it be someone like Daubach or Manny. I couldn't believe what I was seeing through eight plus and it felt surreal when that hit landed.

But it's so much fun to only score six runs in three games and win each one.
