O&A Board Regular Registered: Jan. 01 | OK, it was the Staten Island Yankees who lost to Brooklyn Cyclones, but if you'r a Met fan, you'll take good news wherever you can get it. 'CLONES NY'S BEST IN FERRY FINALE By ADAM GARNETT -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- September 9, 2001 -- Last night in Coney Island ,The Brooklyn Cyclones accomplished something their baseball ancestors, the Dodgers, were largely unsuccessful at doing. They beat the Yankees in a playoff series. Instead of Duke Snider and Don Drysdale, it was Brett Kay and Ross Peeples who emerged as heroes as the Cyclones beat the Staten Island Yankees 4-1 in front of 7,909 at KeySpan Park to win the NY-Penn League McNamara Division playoff series 2-1. "We did what we had to do to win," said Peeples who pitched seven innings, surrendering zero runs on four hits with six strikeouts. "We cam in here with a game plan and think we were a little tight at first but we came in, got relaxed and played some great defense. We are going to be ready [for the next series]." The Yankees got the first scoring opportunity in the second inning. After Jason Turner shot a liner into left field for a double and advanced to third base on a fielder's choice, Peeples induced ground outs to Robinson Cano and Deivi Mendez to end the threat. After managing only one hit off Yankee starter Javier Ortiz through four innings, the Cyclones finally broke through in the fifth. Frank Corr singled to center and Forrest Lawson followed with a shot past a diving Cano into left field. John Toner then laid down a sacrifice bunt, moving Corr and Lawson up a base. Sean Pittman popped out to third and up stepped the speedster Angel Pagan. Pagan sent grounder to the first baseman Todd Faulkner which he knocked down. But Pagan's speed was too much and he slid in safely in front of the Faulkner toss, allowing Corr to come home for the first run of the game. The Baby Bombers picked up three hits in the top of the seventh of Peeples, but were unable to push across a run due to some stellar Brooklyn defense. Shelley Duncan and Jason Turner led off with singles. Duncan was cut down at third on a nice play by catcher Bret Kay on a sacrifice attempt by Faulkner. Then came the play of the game as Toner gunned down Turner at home after Cano singled to left field to preserve the 1-0 lead. "I just made sure I had it in my glove and I let it go," said Toner of his game-altering throw. "It was not really a lot of thought, just reaction." Pagan struck again in the seventh singling home Wayne Lydon with two outs to pick up his second RBI of the game. The Yankees were able to scratch across a run in the top of the eighth when John-Ford Griffin singled in Kevin Thompson top cut the lead to 2-1. That hope was wiped out quickly in the bottom of the eighth as Kay launched a two-run bomb off the scoreboard in left field, making it 4-1. The Cyclones move on to face Williamsport on Monday where they will take on the Crosscutters in game one of the three-game championship series.

Psychopath Registered: Jul. 01 | I saw that coming a mile away. There was no way in Hell the SI Yankees were beating the Cyclones, they're too damn good. I say replace the Mets with the Cyclones and send the Mets to the A League. ;) thanks for the find wpp :) I'm going crazy, a little every day, and everything I wanted is now driving me away, I woke this morning to the sound of beating hearts, mine is full of questions and it's tearing yours apart...

O&A Board Regular Registered: Dec. 00 | It wouldnt matter if they were playing in a Division that has a decent team in it, where under 90 wins isnt going to win the Division. THe Mets took a tough blow today by losing the game and falling 8 back. But with 6 games against the Braves left, and 12 games left with the Pirates and Expos. If the Mets play like they have been, they still have a slight chance. Hey, if the Braves didnt win 6 out of their last 7, the Mets would be abour 4 or 5 games out right now. Special thanks to the Cubs for a great weekend at Wrigley. I appreciate that. No Playoffs for the Cubs I hope. They are on my shitlist.
